The department store chain is closing 31 of its 59 shops nationally as part of a rescue deal.

The number of jobs under threat at each of the three threatened stores is:

    • 207 in Hull
    • 149 in Grimsby
    • 129 in Lincoln

Hull's store is in a very prominent position in the city centre and would leave a large retail hole.

The city council said it was disappointed but is actively working to attract new operators and investors into the city.

    Quote Message

Unfortunately this news did not come as a surprise as the retailer’s national difficulties have been widely publicised. This is a prime Hull site, and we are confident that another retailer or developer will see the potential of this location."

  8. Yorkshire devolution should include northern Lincolnshirepublished at 11:45 British Summer Time 7 June 2018

Businesses on both banks of the Humber have said northern Lincolnshire should be included in any 'One Yorkshire' devolution deal.

    Yorkshire flag

Places like Liverpool, Manchester and Tees Valley all have a deal with the government which allows them to take charge for decisions which affect their area - and these deals have unlocked billions in additional funding.

Eighteen out of 20 authorities in Yorkshire support a so-called 'One Yorkshire' model, including Hull and the East Riding.

A separate Sheffield City Region deal has already been agreed and a mayor for the region was elected in May.

Businesses believe any deal which includes the north of the Humber must include the south bank.

    Quote Message

Like most other businesses we're very supportive of the devolution concept but we do believe the fate of both banks of the Humber are tied together. So we think they should operate as one entity in whatever form of devolution that takes. Both banks of the Humber must be together."

Dafydd Williams, Associated British Ports Humber
