    Withernsea is going to become the first Yorkshire seaside town to have its own Jurassic-themed attraction.

    Models of fossils from the Jurassic era will be set out along the beach over the next few weeks.

    150 million years ago Withernsea was the bed of a warm ocean, and the fossils from creatures which lived in that ocean can still be found on the beach today.

    Police patrols in Hull city centre are being increased to resolve issues around begging and drug taking and dealing.

    Humberside Police said the action was in response to concerns about increasing anti-social behaviour around the Jameson Street area of the city.

    The force says it's working in partnership with other organisations to help address the problem.

    A mural depicting military personnel has been completed in Cottingham Memorial Gardens.

    It's been done on behalf of the parish council by Andy Pea, the artist behind the Lillian Bilocca mural on Hull's Hessle Road.

    The mural will be officially opened in a ceremony on Thursday morning.

    Pupils from Cottingham's Hallgate Primary School will place pebbles painted as poppies in front of the new mural.

  4. NHS trust installs free wi-fi across all sitespublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 5 June 2018

    Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, external has become one of the first NHS trusts in the North East of England to provide free wi-fi for patients and the public across all of its' sites.

    The trust, which provides mental health, primary care, community and specialist services in Hull, the East Riding and North Yorkshire, has spent £200,000 installing the service at more than 60 sites.

    Mental health units and Whitby Hospital are among the facilities to have benefited.

    Releasing balloons for special ceremonies and events poses a risk to animals, according to the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust.

    The charity said there's been a sharp increase in the number of popped and deflated balloons being found littering the coast.

    It says animal and marine life are being killed by the items and farmers have also expressed concern about the rise posed by balloons to their livestock.

    The charity said it was time to consider a ban on balloon releases to protect animals from harm.

    Staff at Sewerby Hall zoo are celebrating after the birth of eight raccoon dog puppies.

    The puppies, born six-weeks-ago, are now on view to the public and are said to be in good health.

    Their parents, Oona and Bandit, arrived at the zoo last summer.

    Raccoon dogs are usually found in the forests and woodland of East Asia.

    They live on a diet of fish and rodents as wells as seeds, nuts and fruit.

    The are not genetically related to raccoons but are, in fact, more closely-related to dogs.

    Thousands of steelworkers' jobs in towns and cities across the country are under threat because of the tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, according to a new study by the GMB union, external.

    The GMB listed Parliamentary constituencies most at risk and placed Rotherham, Scunthorpe, Newport East, Corby and Aberavon in south Wales, in the top five.

    The union said the steel industry supports more than 34,000 jobs, with annual wages of more than £1 billion contributing £230m in tax and national insurance contributions.

    It said the study highlighted the potential impact of steel tariffs on the UK economy.

    A new park in Bridlington has been awarded more than £1.4m in European Union funding to complete its' second stage.

    The European Regional Development Fund has awarded the money to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

    With funding in place, a planning application for the second phase of Gypsey Race Park is expected at the end of the month.

    The council says the park will be a green corridor running alongside Gypsey Race, with play areas, walking routes and space for wildlife.

    The project's described as an important part of Bridlington’s regeneration plans.

    A 74-year-old man has been seriously injured after a car left the road and hit him in South Ferriby.

    It happened near the post office on Sluice Road at about 16:00 yesterday.

    The man remains in Hull Royal Infirmary with serious injuries.

    The driver of the blue BMW and passengers were unharmed.

    Humberside Police are appealing for witnesses.

    Several 103-year-old chocolate bars are due to be auctioned off in Scunthorpe later.

    The bars were found in a tin among a collection of items belonging to Leicestershire Regiment soldier Richard Bullimore.

    Troops serving in France during the first Christmas of World War One were given the Colonies Gift Tins.

    Just one of the 10 bars had been eaten.

    A church in Immingham is warning people to remove ornamental items from graves.

    A notice was put up asking for things like candles, plastic flowers, solar lights and vases to be removed from St Andrew's churchyard by the end of June or they will be removed for them.

    The move has upset some people with relatives buried there.

    The Diocese of Lincoln, which oversees the church, says Church of England churchyards are subject to rules which aim to make the space one of peace and prayer for all through fairness and consistency.

    Work is underway to resurface more than 100 miles of motorways and A-roads across Yorkshire and the Humber region.

    Highways England says it's looking to spend about £80m on the improvements, and the works will mostly take place overnight to reduce disruption.

    Barriers will also be replaced and road markings repainted, according to Highways England.

    MPs and business leaders will meet the Rail Minister Jo Johnson today to discuss changes to TransPennine (TPE) train services from Hull.

    It comes amid major problems with new timetables on the rail network.

    The changes were brought in to improve connections across the north of England, but it has meant a slower service for Hull.

    TPE says it's committed to working with stakeholders and industry partners to secure the funding required to further develop rail services to and from Hull.
