    A man's been left with serious injuries following an assault in Immingham earlier today.

    It happened on Spring Street just after midnight.

    A man and woman have been arrested in connection with the incident and both remain in custody.

    SMG Europe hope to put on 65 public events at the venue, which holds 3,500 people, in the first year.

    A dead minke whale has washed ashore at Hornsea in East Yorkshire.

    The 4m-long whale washed up on the north side of the beach, near Morrow Avenue car park, last night.

    It was reported to Hornsea Inshore Rescue at about 20:00.

    The animal's death is not considered to be suspicious and it isn't clear when the remains will be removed.

    NHS hospitals in East Yorkshire are unveiling a new scheme which will use art and culture to help people with long-term health issues.

    The launch is due to take place at Hull Royal Infirmary this afternoon and will bring together people from the art and health sectors.

    The initiative has been set up to look at the relationship between art and recovery and is set to run until 2021.

    Six people have been arrested in Hull city centre as part of a crackdown on drug dealing and anti-social behaviour.

    Humberside Police's chief constable Lee Freeman made one of the arrests while on foot patrol yesterday.

    Four people are being questioned on suspicion of possession of a controlled substance, one is being held on suspicion of intent to supply and one was released without charge.

    Officers say they will not accept people openly dealing drugs in the city and are encouraging anyone who sees anything to get in touch.

    Yesterday the force said it was increasing patrols in the city centre to tackle the issue which has been highlighted in recent days.

    A collection of 103-year-old chocolate bars which were part of a collection of World War One memorabilia up for auction in Scunthorpe yesterday netted over £3,000.

    The bars were found in a tin among a collection of items belonging to Leicestershire Regiment soldier Richard Bullimore.

    Troops serving in France during the first Christmas of World War One were given the Colonies Gift Tins.

    Just one of the 10 bars had been eaten.

  8. Get on your bike: Children's 'Tour' hits East Yorkshirepublished at 09:05 British Summer Time 6 June 2018

    A schoolchildren's equivalent of the Tour de Yorkshire comes to East Yorkshire today.

    Pupils from nine schools in the county will take to their bikes to help relay a baton as part of the cycling event across the whole of Yorkshire.

    It started yesterday in Pickering and the baton will be handed over to Flamborough Primary this afternoon, travelling 70 miles over the next three days before moving onto York.

    Over the next month, the Schools Yorkshire Tour will have visited 162 schools and covered 400 miles, external.

  9. Hull's 'Bee Lady' to receive national honourpublished at 08:27 British Summer Time 6 June 2018

    Hull's "Bee Lady" is due to be awarded her British Empire Medal in a special ceremony today.

    Jean Bishop, 96, dresses as a bee to raise money for Age UK.

    She got involved with a knitting class at her local Age UK after the death of her husband and then started fundraising.

    She will receive her medal from the Lord Lieutenant at the offices of the charity.

    Last year, Mrs Bishop was awarded the Freedom of the City of Hull for raising more than £100,000 for charity.

    Hull's three MPs and business leader met with Jo Johnson over issues facing the city's rail services amid the problems with timetables affecting commuters all over the country.

    Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has said there have been major failures.

    Plans for a sculpture to celebrate past and present Scunthorpe steelworkers have been submitted by North Lincolnshire Council, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    The proposed sculpture shows a male and female steelworker, dressed in clothing from the 1940s, walking up the High Street away from the steelworks.

    It also aims to highlight the role women played in the industry, particularly during World War II.

    The council is seeking planning permission to erect the statue outside The Foundry Shopping Centre.

    A further three 24-hour strikes by workers at train operator Northern will take place this month in a dispute over driver-only-operated trains, the RMT union has confirmed.

    The action will take place on 19, 21 and 23 June, with the RMT saying “the failure to reach a solution to this dispute to date is solely down to the company and the union remains ready for genuine and meaningful talks".

    The company has denied the switch would hit passenger safety and has previously said it want's "constructive" discussions with the union.
