Dairy farmers in East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire say they're selling much more milk than they expected from vending machines and in glass bottles at the farm gate.
Farmer believe the popularity of bottles is due to shoppers becoming more aware of the environmental damage of plastic.
Though for a bottle to be better for the environment than a plastic carton it does have to be reused numerous times.
Research by the BBC found 17 out of 20 UK dairies were selling more milk in traditional bottles.
Walton Street Market in Hull is to close because its operator has run into financial difficulties, the city council said.
The council hope's the market, which runs on a Sunday and a Wednesday, will be able to be brought back if a new experienced operator can be found.

Plans to transform Hull's Lord Line building into a restaurant and ice-cream parlour have been unanimously rejected by planners at Hull City Council.
Plans for the derelict former trawler company offices had been put forward by the building's owners Manor Property.
Council officers had recommended refusal.
The Lord Line building, built in 1949, has stood empty on St Andrews Dock for a number of years and is on the council's list , externalof architecturally or historically significant buildings.
Plans to demolish it were also rejected by the council last year.
Businesses in Hornsea are angry about the closure of the town's last bank branch.
NatWest will close for the final time on Monday.
The banks say the decision's due to declining footfall, but some residents believe they've been treated badly.

Mansfield Town sign experienced former Scunthorpe United midfielder Neal Bishop on a free transfer.

The Seachill factory in Grimsby wants to double size of its' factory.
Industry magazine Undercurrent News, external says the firm, which supplies fish to Tesco and Waitrose, is looking to increase by 50%.
The fish processing company was sold to meat supplier Hilton Food Group in a deal worth £80m last year.
Seachill employs more than 700 people, making it one of Grimsby's largest employers.
The A614 will be closed between 08:00 on Saturday 16 June and 21.00 on Sunday 17 June, the East Riding of Yorkshire Council has warned.
It's to allow for roadworks to take place between Welham Bridge and Holme-on-Spalding-Moor.
The council says this is the next phase in the £600,000 improvement scheme for the A614.
The authority says diversions will be in place and the works are expected to be completed by the end of June.
The government's been challenged to make it easier for Grimsby Hospital to hire foreign doctors.
The Labour MP for Great Grimsby said the hospital is being forced to spend nearly £50,000 a month on fees for doctors' visas instead of spending it on patient care.
Speaking during Prime Minister's Questions Melanie Onn added 85% of the visa applications had been rejected.
She said the situation was a "waste of taxpayers' money" and is preventing people from accessing the doctors they need.
The Prime Minister said the government was aware of the issue and is considering what action should be taken to address it.

An auction lot, including nine 103-year-old wartime chocolate bars, has sold for £3,050.
The bars were discovered in a tin which belonged to World War One soldier Richard Bullimore, who belonged to a Leicestershire regiment
Troops serving in France during the first Christmas of the war were given the Colonies Gift Tins, made in Mansfield.
Just one of the 10 bars had been eaten and the tin was among items sold at an antiques auction on Tuesday in Scunthorpe., external
Jo Coote, office manager at Eddisons CJM, said: "We have been very pleased with the response from the public and the press. The interest in this lot has been phenomenal."
She said there had been stories written about the lot all over the world but said the buyer was from the UK.

Recognition would enable them to obtain insurance for their activities.
