    Scunthorpe United have signed Fulham striker Steven Humphrys on a season-long loan.

    The 20-year-old was on loan at Rochdale in the second half of last season, making 18 appearances scoring three goals, including once against Tottenham in the FA Cup.

    He could be available to face Winterton Rangers tomorrow in the Iron's first pre-season friendly.

    Almost 130 new doctors are set to graduate from the Hull York medical school next week.

    They'll be joined by 238 new nurses at the University of Hull.

    It's 10 years since the first students graduated at the medical school, taking the total number of doctors trained there to 1,400.

    The number of nurses graduating from the university this year is their largest ever number.

    The University of Hull says the majority of graduating nurses have already been taken on by local health services.

    Hull and East Riding Hospitals Trust has offered jobs to 144 student nurses, who are qualifying this year.

    Its just a few weeks since 103-year-old chocolate bars fetched over £3,000 at auction in Scunthorpe.

    Now a lady from London has contacted the auction house that sold it to say she has even older chocolate!

    So next Tuesday a 118-year-old block of chocolate that was sent by Queen Victoria, external to one of her soldiers fighting in the Boer War in South Africa is to go under the hammer.

    Paul Cooper, the auctioneer at Eddisons CJM says it was part of a gift sent by Queen Victoria to cheer up her soldiers during the Boer War in 1899.

    It's thought it will fetch about £200-£300.

  9. The 'Hull-timate Challenge'published at 15:54 British Summer Time 6 July 2018

    Plans to help raise awareness of the risk of flooding in Hull and the East Riding are being launched today.

    An assault course in Hull city center.

    An obstacle challenge around Hull will take place in October.

    The Hull-timate Challenge, external will have 10km, 7.5km and 5km routes through the city centre, as well as a 1km fun run for children.

    It's highlighting the threat of flooding and how to prevent it.

    It's being run by Living with Water, which is a partnership between Hull City Council,East Riding Council, Yorkshire Water and the Environment Agency.

    They came together after the devastating floods of 2007, when thousands of homes and businesses were affected.

    Although significant progress has been made, the risk of flooding remains high.

    Living with Water want to raise awareness and funds through the challenge, and say their aim is to improve flood resilience across the region.

    The Freedom Festival was launched in Hull back in 2007 to commemorate William Wilberforce, who helped to abolish slavery.

    Hull's Freedom Festival is celebrating the centenary of women gaining the right to vote this year.

    The Rotherham United and Grimsby Town friendly has been cancelled because South Yorkshire Police do not have enough police officers and staff for the pre-season fixture, according to Grimsby Town.

    The match was due to be held on Friday 20 July, however Grimsby Town has said the game won't go ahead after advice from South Yorkshire Police.

    South Yorkshire Police have been contacted for comment.

    Nearly 100 new ambulances will be added to the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire fleets as part of the NHS's 70th Birthday celebrations.

    Both the Yorkshire and the East Midlands Ambulance Trusts have received a £12.49m pound funding boost from the Department of Health and Social Care, external.

    Dr Steven Dikes, deputy medical director of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service, says it's a significant investment.

    Hull Trains is warning passenger that some of its trains could be hotter than normal today.

    If you're planning to use these services, you're able to travel on an alternate Hull Trains service, the company says.
