    A house which was once the seaside residence of Charles Dickens is up for sale in Kent.

    The seven bedroom Grade II listed mansion sits high on the cliffs in Broadstairs and has been used as a wedding venue since 2012.

    Built in 1801 and originally known as Fort House, Dickens is said to have composed or planned many of his novels here.

    The property - which is on the market for £2.5m - was renamed Bleak House many years after the book by the same name was published.

    England's David Luckman and Parag Patel successfully defended their Queen's prize pairs title from 2014, finishing two points ahead of Welsh pair Gareth Morris and Chris Watson - who had led going into the final 1000-yard round but had to settle for silver.

    Scotland's Alexander Walker and Ian Shaw managed to secure themselves a bronze medal in the final round, ahead of South Africa.

    Northern Ireland pair David Calvert and Jack Alexander finished in seventh, ahead of the oldest ever Commonwealth Games competitor Robert Pitcairn, 79, and team-mate Nicole Rossignol of Canada.

    Another clean-sweep of the medals in the shooting by the Home Nations!

    This time in the men's 50m rifle prone, where 2006 Commonwealth Games champion David Phelps - celebrating his 41st birthday today - has won gold for Wales.

    After five eliminations, Phelps along with Scotland's Neil Stirton and England's Kenneth Parr, from Croydon, had all secured a medal - but it was the Welshman who triumphed in the final with a Commonwealth Games record score.

    Earlier, England, Wales and Scotland took the medals in the Queen's prize pairs final with Bristol's David Luckman and Parag Patel, from Cobham, defending their title.

    Not bad.

    Tributes have been paid to a rugby player who died within hours of competing in his club’s final game of the season.

    Steyning RFC player Jonathan Harley, 27, who was known as PJ, died on Saturday following an away match against Worthing Knights.

    The right-winger made 13 appearances for the club, external, scoring four tries and a total of 20 points.

    In a statement, the club said "the irony and sadness of his passing on the last day of our first season as Steyning Rugby Club isn’t lost upon us".

    "PJ had a huge part to play in the resurgence of rugby (from Norfolk Arms to Steyning RFC) in our town and will be sorely missed by us all… we few, we lucky few, we band of brothers that got to play alongside him.

    "Swing low sweet chariot and carry him home."

    Worthing RFC extended its deepest sympathy to the club.

    "Rugby is a tight community and we offer our support to you and the gentleman's family and friends at this extremely sad time," it said.

    The bomb squad was called to Beresford Gap in Birchington after reports a wartime shell had been found on the beach, Kent Police said.

    A member of the public made the discovery on Sunday but only reported it on Monday morning, HM Coastguard added.

    Police were called just after 06.30 BST and "managed to find the ordinance which was lucky as it had been covered by the tide".

    The bomb disposal team took the item back to their base for safe disposal.

    HM Coastguard said it was a 10 inch mortar "mostly used as a directional device which would have been dropped to indicate bomb sites".

    It urged the public to call the Coastguard should anything suspicious be seen at the coast.

    Kent Police is appealing for information after jewellery was stolen in four burglaries in the county.

    Det Con Jo Heard said: "We are really keen to hear from witnesses and review any dash cam footage that may have been captured in these specific roads at the times stated."

    The break-ins took place:

    • on 3 April between 20:00 BST and 21:00 BST at a property in McCarthy Avenue, Sturry
    • on 5 April at a house in Park Avenue, Dover, between 12:00 and 13:15 BST
    • also on 5 April at two houses in Greystones, Ashford between 16:30 and 17:30 BST
    • on 8 April in Fremantle Road, Folkestone, between 17:15 BST and 17:40 BST

    Detectives are appealing for information on items stolen from a 97-year-old woman's home while she was away receiving care.

    Burglars struck at her Crawley home between Sunday and Monday, 25 and 26 February, Sussex Police said.

    The items, valued in total at about £1,700, include a white coral necklace, a silver tea set and silver napkin rings.

    Sussex Police wants to hear from anyone who may recognise the items or may have been offered them in the Crawley area recently.

    Det Con Adam Tidy said: "This has been a very upsetting experience for the elderly victim, and for her family who continue to care for her.

    "The loss is not simply financial but has caused distress due to the sentimental family attachment to so many of the items."
