    The future of Bradford Bulls is "still strong", despite the club being placed into administration for the third time, the club's chairman has said.

    In a statement on the Bulls' website, external, Marc Green says he's been talking to "serious investors" after the club faced a winding-up petition from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), but pressure from HMRC has now forced the club into this position "to save its future".

    "I will be working closely with the administrators over the coming weeks and it is my intention to regain this club from them within the shortest practicable time frame," Mr Green says.

    "Regardless of whether I remain at the helm of this great club, I will ensure all memberships already purchased for next season will remain valid, as will the offer under which they were purchased. 

    "I believe the future of Bradford Bulls is still strong," he concludes.

    More now on the news that hundreds of Arriva bus drivers are staging a 24-hour strike over pay and shifts.

    The walkout started at 03:00 this morning and bus passengers are being urged to plan for a longer journey.

    The main areas affected are Cleckheaton, Dewsbury and Heckmondwike as well as some services to and from Leeds.

    Championship rugby league club Bradford Bulls have been placed in administration for the third time.

    Bradford, who entered administration in both 2012 and 2014, faced a winding-up petition from HM Revenue & Customs in October.

    Bulls chairman Marc Green said: "I have been talking to a number of serious investors and purely the pressure from HMRC has forced the club to be put into this position to save its future."

    A new study's been published to mark the start of anti-bullying week, external, highlighting that over 60% of cases also go unreported. 

    Employment lawyer Victoria Lewis told BBC Radio Leeds bullying can lead to depression, marriage breakdown and even suicidal thoughts.

    For the first time ever over half of Britain's electricity is "low carbon", according to the owners of Yorkshire's Drax Power Station near Selby, external.

    The firm has been looking at electricity production over the last quarter of this year and describes the news as "dramatic" and "ground-breaking".

    It says low carbon sources - nuclear, biomass, hydro, wind and solar - made up 50.2 % of our total.  

    That's a big jump from six years ago, when these sources produced just 20%, the firm says, with just 3% of our electricity now coming from burning coal.

    Drax says that's down to something called the Carbon Price Floor - George Osborne's 2011 measure which financially penalises producers of greenhouse gases.

    Huddersfield Giants have signed stand off Lee Gaskell on a four-year deal, external from Bradford Bulls.

    The 26-year-old was the 2015 Championship Player of the Year with the Bulls, having previously played for St Helens. 

    Gaskell has told the Giants website: "To be back in Super League is a great feeling and to be given this chance by the Giants is pleasing and it's something I’m looking forward to. 

    "The set-up here is really good and all the coaching, conditioning and medical staff have been really good in getting me back to full fitness."

    A cloudy but mild day with some sunny spells this afternoon, particularly further east with temperatures responding nicely. 

    Cloud may be thick enough at times to produce the odd spot of drizzle with temperature highs of about 13C (55F).

    Another cloudy and mild night to come with the risk of some drizzle affecting western hills with lows of 12C (54F).

  12. Hundreds of Yorkshire bus drivers on strikepublished at 09:15 Greenwich Mean Time 14 November 2016

    Hundreds of bus drivers are on a 24-hour strike over pay and shifts.

    About 850 Arriva drivers at depots in Castleford, Dewsbury, Heckmondwike and Wakefield in West Yorkshire, and Selby in North Yorkshire, were due to strike.

    The walkout started at 03:00 and bus passengers are being urged to plan for a longer journey.

    Arriva apologised and said it was disappointed that the Unite union had not accepted its latest offer to try to resolve the dispute.

    "We are disappointed that the union negotiating committee refused to ballot members on this increased offer in favour of a 24-hour stoppage," Arriva said.

    Unite officer Phil Bown said: "Strike action is not being taken by our members on the back of a whim."
