  7. Prison officers' walkout delays Jo Cox murder trialpublished at 11:19 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2016

The trial of Thomas Mair, who's accused of murdering West Yorkshire MP Jo Cox, will not go ahead today because of action by prison workers.

    Prison officers

Thousands of prison officers in England have stopped work amid health and safety concerns, their union has said.

The Prison Officers Association said up to 10,000 members would take part in the day of protest, which would be "interpreted as a strike", after talks with the government broke down.

Thomas Mair, 53, allegedly repeatedly shot and stabbed the 41-year-old Batley and Spen MP outside her constituency surgery in Birstall on 16 June.

The Old Bailey trial was due to hear the first witnesses in the case, but trial judge Mr Justice Wilkie adjourned the case until 10:30 on Wednesday because Mr Mair was not in the dock.

  9. HS2: Tunnel planned under Woodlesfordpublished at 10:49 Greenwich Mean Time 15 November 2016

Away from the traffic problems in Leeds, and to transport of a different kind:

The planned new route for HS2 will mean a tunnel almost half a mile long being built on the approach to Leeds, an MP has said.

Andrew Jones, minister for HS2 and Conservative MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, says it would be a "big change" to the way the rail line comes into Leeds.

The tunnel would run beneath Woodlesford in West Yorkshire.

The route through Sheffield is still being considered, but one option includes cutting through a housing estate still being built.

    Quote Message

A tunnel sounds better than a massive viaduct, although we haven't seen the actual plans. There's still more uncertainty but that's the nature of the beast with HS2."

And I still beat the bus...
