    If you're heading into Leeds this morning and planning to use the A65 Kirkstall Road - think again...

    An accident overnight means the road's closed and there are major delays due to queuing traffic in both directions between the Milford Place junction and the Barnbrough Street junction.

    There's currently serious congestion inbound to the B6157 Bridge Road junction and outbound to the Wellington Bridge Street junction.

    There are major traffic problems in Leeds this morning after a serious accident on the A65 Kirkstall Road overnight.

    As a result of the accident, the road is going to be closed until at least 10:00, according to police.

    And, of course, that means only one thing: gridlock. This is the scene on one road near Kirkstall Road.

    I'm being told it's "absolute gridlock" with traffic at an absolute standstill.

    More on the news that a major route into Leeds city centre has been closed as police investigate a serious accident.

    The A65 Kirkstall Road is currently closed between Milford Place and Bamburgh Street near Cardigan Fields in the Burley area.

    I've been told by West Yorkshire Police that two vehicles have collided with a building and two people are believed to be seriously hurt.

    The road is expected to be closed throughout the rush hour.

    As you may have seen, there are big problems on the way into Leeds on the A65 this morning because of an accident overnight. 

    Kirkstall Road is currently closed in both directions and as a result it's already pretty much gridlock on this main route into the city.

    Police are appealing for information following a knife point robbery at a Leeds shop.

    At about 14.40 on Sunday 13 November a man entered Sheikh's Store, in Beeston Road, and pushed the lone 28-year-old female member of staff to the floor, threatened her with a kitchen knife and demanded cash.

    The man grabbed a quantity of cigarettes from the behind the counter and ran from store. 

    He was described as white, aged 28 to 35, about 5ft 5ins tall, skinny, with short hair.

    Friends of a woman originally from Bradford - who has been missing for more than four weeks - have travelled to Merseyside to join efforts to find her.

    Mother-of-one Anita Stevenson, 39, was last seen by her partner at their home in Tranmere, Wirral on 18 October.

    A 41-year-old man from Birkenhead was arrested on suspicion of murder and later released on bail.

    Skywatchers are preparing for the latest "supermoon" as Earth's satellite makes its closest approach since 1948.

    The UK's best chance to see it will be on Monday evening, with the moon set to rise at 16:43 GMT in Edinburgh and at 16:44 in London.

    To observers, it will appear about 7% larger than normal and about 15% brighter - although the human eye is barely able to discern that difference.

    A man shouted "Britain First" as he shot and stabbed Labour MP Jo Cox to death in a "cowardly attack", the Old Bailey has heard.

    Thomas Mair, 53, allegedly murdered Mrs Cox outside her constituency surgery in Birstall, near Leeds, on 16 June.

    On the opening day of his trial, the prosecution told jurors the 41-year-old was "brutally murdered... in what was a planned and pre-meditated murder for a political and/or ideological cause".

    Dementia, including Alzheimer's Disease, has overtaken heart disease as the leading cause of death in England and Wales, latest figures reveal.

    Last year, more than 61,000 people died of dementia - 11.6% of all recorded deaths.

    The Office for National Statistics, external says the change is largely due to an ageing population.

    Drink-fuelled crime's risen sharply in Leeds, with an extra extra 200 offences reported in the city centre in the space of a year.

    It's happening at weekends in the Call Lane area, known as a "red zone" because of the number of pubs and bars there.

    West Yorkshire Police say violent crime is four times higher in Call Lane than Leeds' other red zones.
