  1. Tour de Yorkshire: Stage three in detailpublished at 11:35 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    The routes for next year's Tour de Yorkshire have been announced this morning.

    There will be three stages, with the first two taking in the coast and market towns. The third and final stage will set off from Bradford.

    Tour de Yorkshire 2017, Stage Three

    30 April

    • Named The Yorkshire Terrier as this is the toughest stage in the history of the Tour de Yorkshire
    • Riders will start at Bradford City Park before heading into Saltaire. 
    • The action then briefly joins the 2014 Tour de France route at Burley-in-Wharfedale 
    • The we pass the majestic Bolton Abbey and into the Yorkshire Dales. 
    • Skipton is next, with the first of eight categorised climbs being contested on the Côte de Silsden. 
    • The following ascent comes on the cobbled rise up Haworth’s main street and another climb at Leeming
    • Then it's the Côte de Shibden Wall. This "cobbled brute" could see splits form before the intermediate sprint at Clifton. 
    • The race then traverses from West to South Yorkshire and into Penistone, 
    • There's another sprint on the cards at Stocksbridge 
    • Then the riders embark on a torturous 22km finishing circuit that features no-less than four categorised climbs.

    If you watched Look North yesterday you'll have seen the moment that they surprised their own BBC Get Inspired Unsung Hero.

    Shiv Krishan has been a community cricket coach in Yorkshire for almost 40 years, inspiring youngsters to get involved in his favourite sport. 

     He's volunteered thousands of hours of his time to pass on his skills. This was his reaction when Tanya Arnold surprised him with the BBC Unsung Hero Award:

    The full route details for next year's Tour de Yorkshire have just been announced in Bradford.

    Between Friday 28 April and Sunday 30 April, more than 100 riders will race the roads of Yorkshire.

    West Yorkshire's turn comes on the third stage when they will set off from Bradford and head to Fox Valley in South Yorkshire.

    The full details for next year's Tour de Yorkshire have been announced in Bradford.

    Here's the route that the Tour de Yorkshire will take through West Yorkshire.

    On Sunday 30 April the cyclists will leave Bradford on stage three of the race and head south to Fox Valley in South Yorkshire.

    A 39-year-old mother has been left traumatised after two men approached her and stole the keys to her car and made off with them, leaving her child locked in the car.

    The incident happened at about 09:30 yesterday morning in Halifax. Two men threatened her and stole the keys to her vehicle, which had just been locked with the victim's young child inside. 

    The suspects left in a silver Ford Fiesta towards Queensbury with the victim's keys. Police officers had to break into the car to free the child.

  6. 'Jo Cox' tweet aimed at MP Anna Soubry sparks outragepublished at 10:00 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    A Twitter post asking someone to "Jo Cox" a Remain-supporting Conservative MP has sparked outrage.  

    The tweet, directed at Broxtowe MP Anna Soubry but mis-spelling her name, said "Someone jo cox Anna sourby please", in reference to the murder of Batley and Spen MP Jo Cox the week before the EU referendum.

  7. Watch: Yorkshire schools payout £1m over asbestos calimspublished at 09:49 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    Both Leeds and Bradford councils have paid out £1m in compensation to people who developed illnesses because of asbestos in school buildings.

    It's thought that 300 people, who were children in schools with asbestos in them, die every year because of exposure to the substance.

    But campaigners warn that the presence of asbestos in schools continues to put pupils' lives at risk.  

  8. Crackdown on car tax cheats in Leedspublished at 09:27 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    The number of vehicles that have been clamped in Leeds for not having road tax has more than doubled in a year.

    Last year more than 1,500 cars, vans and trucks were seized compared to about 700 in 2014.    

    The DVLA is carrying out a special clampdown in the city.

  9. Leeds' Bridgewater Place owners to foot £900,000 wind billpublished at 09:08 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    The owners of Yorkshire's tallest building are to pay £903,000 to cover the cost of work Leeds City Council carried out to deflect strong winds.

    High winds around Bridgewater Place in Leeds were blamed for the death of Dr Edward Slaney, who was killed when a lorry blew over in March 2011.

    CPPI Bridgewater Place, the building's owners, have agreed to pay to cover the public money spent, said the council.

    Roads are closed to all users around the 32-storey skyscraper in high winds.

  10. Funeral for cyclist killed on Kirkstall Roadpublished at 08:29 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    A funeral service is being later held for the Leeds cyclist who died after an accident on Kirkstall Road last month

    John Harkins will be cremated after a ceremony in his native Cumbria this morning. The 33-year-old was a well known cheerleading coach and gym instructor.

    More than 100 people took part in a memorial bike ride to remember him last Saturday.

    Two men from Leeds, aged 23 and 36, were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving following the crash and are on police bail.  

  11. Tour de Yorkshire: Route for 2017 to be announced laterpublished at 08:16 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    The route of next year's Tour de Yorkshire will be revealed in Bradford this morning.

    The city will host either the start or the end of one of the stages of the event, in what will be its third year. 

    The exact course will be be announced in City Park just before 12:00. We'll bring you the latest as we get it!

  12. West Yorkshire councils pay out £1m for school asbestos claimspublished at 08:06 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2016

    Councils in West Yorkshire have paid out £1m due to school asbestos compensation claims. The figures come from a BBC Yorkshire investigation looking at the last 5 years.

    The National Union of Teachers, external says nationally up to 300 adults die each year, who were pupils at affected schools, because of exposure to asbestos.  

    It is widely accepted that any school building built before the year 2000 is likely to contain some form of asbestos. 

    The government says it is investing £23bn to improve school buildings.

    Leeds Rhinos coach Brian McDermott hopes Australian hooker James Segeyaro will return to the club despite the player saying he is homesick.

    Last week, chief executive Gary Hetherington said Segeyaro would stay at Leeds despite interest from the NRL.
