    Potholes in West Yorkshire's roads are to be fixed with £2.2m being handed to the county's councils.

    The announcement's come from the government, which is earmarking £3bn for transport improvement schemes across England. 

    It's also pledging to fund safety work on two stretches of the A6033 in Calderdale, totaling 13.5 miles.

    The son of a missing woman from Bradford, whose body was discovered in woods, has paid tribute to his "amazing" mother.

    The body of Anita Stevenson, 39, was found in Bromborough, Wirral on Saturday, said Merseyside Police, who are treating her death as unexplained.

    Jake Stevenson wrote on Facebook that it was "soul destroying" that he cannot give her "one last hug".

    Leeds Prison is among the worst in the country for inmates killing themselves.

    There were 11 suicides there over the past four years - which is the second highest figure in the country. 

    Nationally, 2016 is the worst year ever for recorded suicides in jails, that's according to The Howard League for Penal Reform, external

    There was an average of one suicide every three days - which is about ten times higher than the rate in the general population.

  12. Uni's £6m project to examine Yorkshire flood resiliencepublished at 09:46 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2016

    Academics at the University of Leeds are looking at ways the Yorkshire region can be made more resilient to flooding, external.

    Parts of West and North Yorkshire were badly hit by last year's Boxing Day floods, with thousands of homes and businesses affected.  

    The people behind the £6m project say it's predicted to bring a benefit to the Yorkshire economy of £50m and will reduce the costs and impact of water-related threats to the region. 

    The work will focus on what's known as the Yorkshire Ouse Basin, which encompasses cities like Leeds, Bradford, York and Sheffield, as well as a number of our region's rivers.

    The aim is to "join up ways of improving water quality, resilience to floods and droughts, carbon storage and biodiversity", according to the university.

  13. Sex abuse in Football: Leeds United 'will take any complaint seriously'published at 09:24 Greenwich Mean Time 28 November 2016

    More on the news that the Football Association is investigating allegations of sexual abuse in football at several clubs, including at Leeds United.

    Professional Footballers' Association (PFA) chief executive Gordon Taylor says more than 20 former footballers have come forward regarding allegations of sexual abuse.

    Taylor said at least "six or seven clubs" including Leeds, Crewe, Manchester City, Blackpool, Stoke and Newcastle were connected with "particular individuals".

    In a statement, Leeds said it had not been made aware of any allegations, external but would "take any such complaints seriously and will cooperate fully with the PFA and the FA with any investigations.

    "The safeguarding of our young players is of the utmost importance to Leeds United."

    The Football Association has confirmed it is investigating allegations of sexual abuse in football at several clubs, including Leeds United.

    Former footballers have come forward to say they were sexually abused as youth players.

    Four police forces are investigating the allegations, and an NSPCC hotline has had more than 100 calls.

    The FA said it was working closely with police, adding it "must ensure we do not do anything to interfere with or jeopardise the criminal process".

    The FA has instructed independent leading counsel Kate Gallafent QC, an expert in child protection, to assist with its review.
