Fresh appeal over baby boy found in shopping bagpublished at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2016
Police in Leeds have made a fresh appeal for information after a newborn baby, who was left on a vicarage doorstep in a shopping bag, died.
Officers have released a picture of a shirt that the baby boy was wrapped in.
The baby boy was pronounced dead at hospital and a post-mortem examination has been conducted. People locally have given the baby a name - "Peter".
Officers are making the new appeal exactly one week on from the discovery of the boy on the vicarage doorstep of St Peter’s Church in Bramley, at 09:18 last Wednesday.
The shirt is a 15-inch collar, man’s shirt made by Dunnes. But detectives say that DNA tests suggest that it was worn by a woman.
Quote MessageAlthough a week has passed since the discovery of this baby boy we still have very real concerns for the welfare of his mother. I want her to know that I am giving my personal assurance that we will do everything we can to help and support her if she feels able to come forward."
