  1. Fresh appeal over baby boy found in shopping bagpublished at 16:25 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2016

    Police in Leeds have made a fresh appeal for information after a newborn baby, who was left on a vicarage doorstep in a shopping bag, died. 

    Officers have released a picture of a shirt that the baby boy was wrapped in.

    The baby boy was pronounced dead at hospital and a post-mortem examination has been conducted. People locally have given the baby a name - "Peter".

    Officers are making the new appeal exactly one week on from the discovery of the boy on the vicarage doorstep of St Peter’s Church in Bramley, at 09:18 last Wednesday.

    The shirt is a 15-inch collar, man’s shirt made by Dunnes. But detectives say that DNA tests suggest that it was worn by a woman.

  2. Armed robbery in Crossgatespublished at 16:07 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2016

    A branch of the Leeds Building Society has been robbed at gunpoint in Crossgates this lunchtime.

    The robbery happened at around 12:50, two male suspects entered the premises and demanded money from the tills whilst carrying a gun. 

    They left in a grey get-away vehicle with an amount of cash, no-one was injured. 

    The were described as white males, between 5ft 7ins and 5ft 11ins and they were wearing grey hoodies and jogging bottoms.

    The Queen's granddaughter, Zara Tindall, and her West Yorkshire-born husband Mike have just announced they are expecting their second child in the spring. 

    The couple already have a daughter, Mia, who's nearly three.

    Mike Tindall is originally from Otley and attended Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School in Wakefield.

    Theresa May has paid tribute to the family of the late Batley and Spen MP Jo Cox.

    Mrs May was speaking during Prime Minister's Questions, where she also praised the MP's work on loneliness. 

    Jo Cox was co-chair of the national commission on loneliness, which has been taken up by Leeds West MP Rachel Reeves.

    Have you seen 21-year-old Ally Best? She's been missing in Leeds since Sunday.

    She was last seen on Gledhow Wood Grove and West Yorkshire Police say that they are growing concerned for her welfare as her disappearance is "out of character". 

    She has long dark red/brown hair and has a tattoo on her left hip that says "Ohana".

    Two lanes are currently closed on the M1 southbound between J46 (A63 Leeds Colton) and J45 (A63 Leeds Cross Green) because of emergency repairs.

    A man has died after being found with serious head injuries, external in Bradford.

    Police were called to a house in Ascot Parade at about 17:40, where they found the man who is believed to be in his fifties.  

    He was pronounced dead at the scene.  

    A 47-year-old man from Bradford has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is currently in custody.

    Officers are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

    Paramedics in Yorkshire are struggling to reach seriously ill people quickly enough because they have to wait to hand over patients to accident and emergency departments.

    Ambulance crews across our region lost nearly 32,000 hours in the last financial year, as a result of these "handover delays", a BBC investigation has found.

    They're supposed to get to emergencies within eight minutes. 

    Ambulance bosses are blaming rising demand and pressure in the system.

    It seems that Leeds City Museum's 160-year-old Yak is back in situ after spending a few months undergoing a bit of TLC.

    It was removed for maintenance, and in this Yak's case it definitely needed it because fur-eating moth larvae were found on it.

    One for the fact fans: the yak first arrived in Leeds from Tibet in 1862 and was sent by explorer Colonel Edmund Smyth.

    He'll work with the senior coaching staff as well as assuming the role of Academy head coach.

    Brian McDermott, Rhinos head coach, says: "It's great we have kept a man of his experience, on both sides of the hemisphere, in our game here in Super League.

    "This is a great opportunity for him to cut his teeth with the Rhinos as a coach and I look forward to supporting him to fulfil his potential as a coach."

  18. Mother and baby targeted in Bradford carjackingpublished at 10:22

    A mother from Bradford was given just moments to remove her baby from her car before two masked men stole the vehicle, police have revealed, external.

    The incident happened at about 21:20 on Saturday outside Shezzaan's Restaurant on Halifax Road.

    The men, one of whom appeared to have a "metal object" in his hand, approached the woman's car and told her to get out. They then told her to remove her 11-month-old child.

    The pair then got in the car and drove the silver Volkswagen Polo GTI towards Odsal Top. 

    Neither the woman or the child were hurt.
