  1. Target for new homes in Bradford 'unrealistic'published at 10:21 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2016

    The building of new affordable homes has been in the news a lot recently, now developers and landlords in Bradford are are warning that the city's targets for building new houses are unrealistic.

    Bradford Council is currently waiting on its plans to encourage developers to build another 42,000 homes in the city over the next 14 years. 

    The Local Plan core strategy was put on hold by the Department for Communities and Local Government in October after concerns were raised about its impact on greenbelt areas in the city.   

  2. New Leeds low-emission bus fleet pledged by 2020published at 10:06 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2016

    More on those low-emission buses that are being talked about today. A fleet of 284 of them is to be introduced by one of Leeds' largest bus operators by the end of 2020.

    Operator First West Yorkshire has pledged £71m to provide the low or zero-emissions vehicles, Leeds City Council said.  

    About 250,000 daily bus trips are made in the city and the aim is to double passenger numbers within 10 years, said the council.

    About one in three of households in the city are without a car, according to council figures.

    It's thought one in seven people in Bradford are living in fuel poverty. 

    That means heating their home costs so much - they end up below the poverty line once they've paid their bills. 

    Official figures show that 140,000 people in our county are struggling.

    She was reported missing from the Headingley area yesterday after last being seen on Friday.

    Serease has been missing before and was previously found in Tamworth, Staffordshire. 

    Police are "very concerned" for her welfare and are asking for anyone with information about here location to get in touch.

  5. Travel update: Problems on M1 northboundpublished at 09:15 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2016

    There's currently a car on fire on the M1 northbound at J40 (A638 (Ossett) and J41 (A650 Carrgate).

  6. Funeral of father and daughter who died in Wakefield house firepublished at 09:01 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2016

    The funeral is due to take place later of an eight-year-old girl and her father who both died in a house fire in Wakefield

    Kiera Broadhead and her dad, Andrew, died on 19 October.

    Mr Broadhead had initially escaped the blaze at their home on Ash Crescent in Stanley, but returned to the flames when he realised Kiera was still in the house.

    Daniel Jones, 28, has been charged with murder, arson and burglary and is due to stand trial next April. He denies the charges.

    Fog's currently causing a few problems for drivers on West Yorkshire's roads

    These are the areas where we're hearing it's particularly bad just now:

    • On the M62 between J23, A640 (Huddersfield) and J35, M18 (Langham)
    • On the M621 between J1, A6110 (Beeston) and M1 J43, Belle Isle
    • And on the A1(M) between J41 M62 and J49, A168 (Dishforth)  

    And, as you know, we like to illustrate things with plenty of pictures.

  9. Investment in Leeds bus networkpublished at 08:12 Greenwich Mean Time 6 December 2016

    More than £180m is to be invested in Leeds' bus network, encouraging more people to get on them - and aiming to improve air quality.

    Some of the money will come from Leeds City Council, and we're promised nearly 300 new buses on the road by 2020 with investment from bus operator First.

    There are claims that the investment will reduce some air pollutants by as much as 87%. 

    There'll also be new bus priority lanes on roads in and out of the city centre - and a new park and ride site at Stourton.

    1. Getting to the airport could get a whole lot easier as plans for a new station are revealed for Leeds Bradford Airport today.
    2. A government report claiming that racial segregation is growing in the UK has been criticised by a Bradford MP.
    3. Children as young as 12 have been arrested for drink-driving in Yorkshire and Humber.  
    4. Leeds Rhinos will consider legal action over alleged breach of contract after James Segeyaro told Austrailan press he was homesick.
    5. A busy day at the office for 'Pip' the Jack Russell who was saved after a rabbit chase didn't go to plan in Ilkley.

    The number of vehicles clamped in Leeds because they're not taxed has more than doubled in a year.

    Last year more than 1,500 cars, vans and trucks were seized, compared with about 700 in 2014.  

    I went to speak to the DVLA who told me their message is "pay your tax, or face the triangle of doom."

  15. Memorial held for women workers killed in WW1published at 17:03 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2016

    A memorial service has been held to remember the women workers killed in an explosion at the Barnbow munitions factory in Leeds exactly 100 years ago. 

    It happened during the First World War at the plant in Crossgates, but the 35 deaths were hushed up so that morale wouldn't suffer.

  16. Boy charged with Leeds carjack attackpublished at 16:43 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2016

    A 16-year-old boy has been charged with robbery after a carjacking in Leeds. 

    A woman suffered a broken nose when she was forced out of her car in the West Park area last week.

    Two other teenagers and a woman are still on police bail.

  19. Shopkeeper 'in genuine fear' during armed robberypublished at 15:52 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2016

    A Leeds shopkeeper was left "in genuine fear" when he was robbed by a masked knife-wielding man, external at his newsagent's shop.

    The robbery took place at about 17:30 yesterday afternoon after a man entered the Yousaf newsagent in Fraser Street, Burmantofts.

    The man then demanded cash from the shopkeeper before reaching over the counter and into the till.

    He's described as wearing black clothing, a black balaclava and black gloves.

    Det Insp Charlotte Hails said: "The shopkeeper was put in genuine fear when he was confronted by this male and we need to hear from anyone who saw him leaving the scene or saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area in the time time leading up to the robbery."  

  20. Watch: Young children arrested for drink-driving in Yorkshire and Humberpublished at 15:37 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2016

    More than 100 children under 17 have been arrested for drink-driving in the Yorkshire and Humber region in the past five years, figures show.

    A total of 332 under 18s were arrested by South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Humberside police forces between 2010 and 2015.

    Of those, 112 were 16 or under and the youngest - arrested in South Yorkshire - was just 12 years old.
