    Ahead of the opening of the new Leeds Super Casino in Victoria Gate, the next generation of croupiers are being trained.

    The recruits are undergoing six weeks of full time intensive training in roulette, blackjack and poker and will go to work when the casino opens in January.

  2. Can you uncork truth behind theft of 600 bottles of wine?published at 12:03 Greenwich Mean Time 16 December 2016

    A fresh appeal is being made to try and find 600 bottles of wine stolen from a wine producer based in Ilkley, external.

    A delivery of wine was taken to Langbar in North Yorkshire on 8 November and dropped off at about 20:00, but by morning it had gone. 

    The consignment was worth thousands of pounds, but despite enquires made by North Yorkshire Police, no-one has been arrested.

    Officers say people may be trying to sell the wine in the run-up to Christmas.

    A charity single recorded in memory of murdered West Yorkshire MP Jo Cox is being released today.

    Sales from the cover version of the Rolling Stones classic You Can't Always Get What You Want will raise money for a foundation set up in Mrs Cox's name. 

    Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have waived their rights to royalties and VAT on sales of the single will be donated to charity. 

    Leeds-based bookies William Hill says money which has been bet on it becoming Christmas Number On, will also be given to good causes.

    The government's been accused of short-changing miners from Kellingley Colliery - a year after the pit closed.

    It's emerged that miners from the pit near Knottingley received smaller compensation payouts than those from Thoresby pit in Nottinghamshire. 

    The miners' union and local MPs say it's unfair they didn't get the same deal.

    There's a chance that this year's chart-topping festive single will have a lot more to say than "Merry Christmas everyone".

    At least three of the contenders for the 2016 "Christmas Number One" are hoping they will be sending their own more serious message from right here in Yorkshire.

    It has to be said that as potential recording superstars they are an unlikely line-up.

    They include former miners from Doncaster, South Yorkshire firefighters and friends of Batley and Spen MP Jo Cox, who was victim of an appalling hate crime. Read more in my latest blog.

    A fresh appeal for more information, external has been made after a man died following a "brutal" attack in a Bradford park in the summer.

    Beyake Keita Ann, 21, died in hospital three weeks after he was injured in Attock Park on 23 August. Today would have been his 22nd birthday.

    Beyake was attacked by a gang of men while playing football. He suffered serious head injuries and died in hospital three weeks later.  

    Fifteen men have been questioned by police as part of the investigation, nine of whom are currently on bail.

  10. Emergency services gear-up for 'Mad Friday'published at 08:59

    Emergency services in West Yorkshire are bracing themselves for the first of two so-called "Mad Fridays" in the run-up to Christmas.

    It's traditionally when bars and pubs are packed - while ambulances and A&E units are stretched to the limit. 

    With Christmas Day falling on a weekend this year, it means there'll be another next Friday.

    Police say they are looking for a "big man" following a robbery in Bradford, and they've released a CCTV image of him, external:

    The robbery took place in Clayton Heights on 28 November. 

    He's described by police as being over 6ft tall and of stocky build.

    Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards have waived royalties from sales of a Christmas single in memory of murdered MP Jo Cox.

    The track, recorded by a group of music stars and MPs, is a cover of the Rolling Stones classic, You Can't Always Get What You Want.

    Sales of the single will raise money for a charity set up Mrs Cox's name.

    An MP revealed the veteran rockers were foregoing payment during a House of Commons debate.
