    Figures which show single parents in Bradford have been jailed for not paying their council tax have been branded "horrific" by a politician in the city.

    The number of people who have been put in prison for not paying their council tax in Bradford is 28 over the last two years. 

    That figure includes four single parents. The figures were revealed at a Bradford Council meeting this week.

    The Labour Councillor Michelle Swallow had asked a question about it at a Bradford Council meeting. She says that the council needs to be more compassionate in future.

    Two Bradford men are starting life jail sentences for the murder of a 30-year-old father who was shot in the head.

    Imran Khan suffered a fatal gunshot injury outside his home on Round Street in West Bowling after Amjad Khan (left) and Ismail Khan (right) shot him with a 9mm semi-automatic pistol.

    They will now serve a minimum of 30 years in jail before being considered for release by the Parole Board.

    Imran Khan's daughter was born shortly after his death.

  3. No-show for Jo Cox offensive remarks councillorpublished at 14:25 Greenwich Mean Time 14 December 2016

    A councillor in East Yorkshire who made offensive remarks about murdered Batley and Spen Labour MP Jo Cox has not appeared before a council hearing.

    East Riding of Yorkshire councillor Dominic Peacock made the comments above a link to an article on Facebook about donations to the Jo Cox fund passing the £1m mark.

    Mr Peacock later deleted the post and apologised "unreservedly", but was thrown out of the East Riding's ruling Conservative group and cautioned by police for his comment.

    Mr Peacock says he will remain on the council until the next election.

    A motorbike with a distinctive Help for Heroes paint job belonging to a former Leeds serviceman has been stolen by thieves, external.

    The burglars stole the bike after breaking into a house on York Street in Gipton some time between 10:00 on Sunday, 4 December and 14:00 on Wednesday 7 December.

    They also "needlessly vandalised" parts of his home and threw his military medals around, say police.

    Police in Bradford say they're keeping an open mind about whether an attempted shooting of a man in his seventies last night is linked to several other car-jackings in the city.

    A 72-year-old man was injured in the face and hand after a gun was discharged.

    The shooting happened in a pub car park on Toller Lane just before 21:00 last night.

    Armed officers were called after men in dark clothing and balaclavas demanded the victim hand over his Jaguar. 

    It's possible the suspects followed him to the pub and lay in wait for him to return to his car, police believe.

    The victim was treated in hospital and later released.

    A Leeds charity's challenged the NHS over its support services for bereaved parents.

    Andrea and John Kerslake created Elliot's Footprint in 2014 in memory of their two-year-old son who died unexpectedly.   

    They were so shocked with how they were treated after his death that they've conducted their own investigation.

    The charity's interviewed more than 270 health professionals, police and teachers - and 84% of them thought that bereavement services in Leeds were ineffective.

    Did you see the moon this morning? It looked hug and I tried to get a picture of it myself with my camera phone. But it looked rubbish...

    Almost half of taxi drivers in Leeds have now taken part in compulsory child protection training.

    It was introduced following the report into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham.

    The Jay Report raised concerns about the safety of people using taxis in the town - and so Leeds City Council decided to come up with its own measures to keep passengers safe. 

    Almost 3,000 drivers have so far gone through these training sessions and another 3,000 are due to attend the course over the next few months. 

    Most drivers have also been through criminal record checks and, to date, five have subsequently had their licences taken away.

    Operations will continue as normal at St James' Hospital in Leeds today after nearly all planned ops were cancelled yesterday.

    The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust said the cancellations at St James' followed a "high number" of emergency admissions.

    It apologised to patients and said the situation was reviewed daily.

    Hundreds are expected to turn out to a vigil in Bradford this evening for those killed in the battle for the Syrian city of Aleppo this week.

    Pro-government forces in the city have been heavily attacking the east of the city.

    Today the planned evacuation of rebel fighters and civilians from devastated eastern Aleppo has been delayed.

    The event in Bradford is due to take place in Centenary Square at about 17:00.

    Fewer people are out of work in Yorkshire and the Humber.

    New figures show that unemployment in the region fell by 15,000 between August and October to 144,000.  

    Nationally, the jobless total stands at 1.62 million after a reduction of 16,000 in the quarter to October - that's a 10-year low.

    It is, as if you didn't know, a doll of Leeds' very own pop idol Mel B, which is on display as part of an exhibition looking back at people’s favourite memories of growing up in Leeds.

    A man in his seventies has been shot with an air gun in a suspected armed robbery in Bradford.  

    Armed police responded to the incident on Toller Lane just before 21:00 yesterday evening.

    The man isn't thought to be seriously injured.
