That's according to Liberal Democrat councillors in Bradford who will today propose a motion to start getting rid of high calorie drinks in all council buildings, including local authority schools.

The leader of Bradford Council's Conservatives, Simon Cooke, is an outspoken critic of the proposal, calling it the "nanny state in action".

But Lib Dem councillor Alun Griffiths, who is also a GP, has hit back saying the council has a responsibility to look after children.

The Banardo's shop on Stanley Road was targeted by thieves between Thursday 17 November and Friday 18 November.

They ransacked the store room, stole stock and damaged internal doors.

But local police officers have now raised £200 from their tuck shop and stock and new security systems have been donated by local shops.

    Quote Message

The attack on such a well-known charity was a particularly callous offence, especially given that it took place just before Children in Need day. The people who broke in caused a significant amount of damage in store and I think the nature of what has taken place has caused real offence among people in Wakefield."

    Victoria HallImage source, Google

The Victoria Hall pool has been earmarked for closure by Bradford Council, which say it's too expensive to run and that the number of people using it is "very low".

But figures obtained from the council show there were more than 40,000 visits to the pool last year.

Members of the group are due to make their views known at a Bradford Council meeting later.

    Quote Message

The figures the council provided show that it is used. Sixteen schools currently use it, so there are definitely enough schoolchildren who attend on a regular basis."
