    There's one lane closed and queuing traffic on the A65 Kirkstall Road eastbound in Leeds at the Willow Road junction, because of an accident.  

    Earlier on there seemed to be a power cut around that junction meaning the traffic lights weren't working.

    The husband of murdered MP Jo Cox will deliver this year's alternative Christmas message - in which he calls for an end to the "rise of hatred".

    Brendan Cox will pay tribute to his wife in the Channel 4 broadcast on Christmas Day. 

    He'll also talk about what he describes as "an awful year for his family" - and the hope that 2016 will be a wake-up call which brings people back together.

    A campaign to raise money for the family of a lorry driver murdered in an attack on a Berlin Christmas market has gained more than £50,000 in donations.

    The online crowdfunding push was started by "fellow trucker" Dave Duncan from Otley with 3,700 people offering money.

    Twelve people died when a lorry drove through Breitscheidplatz market on Monday, leaving at least 48 injured.

    Lukasz Urban (pictured) was found dead in the passenger seat with gunshot wounds.

    A supply teacher who watched pornography while teaching a class in Leeds has been banned from teaching indefinitely.

    Amar Raza Hussain was working at Lawnswood High School in April when he was caught watching the videos. 

    He's been found guilty of of unacceptable professional conduct. 

    He can apply to have the ban reviewed after two years.  

  9. Batley rapist with dementia 'cannot be jailed'published at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2016

    A pensioner found guilty of rape has been given an absolute discharge due to having dementia.

    A jury decided Jeremiah Cummins, 75, committed historical offences against two victims in a trial of the facts.

    Judge Jonathan Rose said Cummins, of Arncliffe Road, Batley, tried to make one girl have sex with a dog and another was made to drink urine.

    But at Bradford Crown Court, the judge said he could not send him to prison as he had an untreatable mental disorder.

    We're getting plenty of reports of slow traffic in Leeds tonight, here's a handy list of places to avoid if you can:

    • Eastbound on Boar Lane, Duncan Street, Call Lane and York Street in the city centre.
    • A61 Regent Street / St Peter's Street between Sheepscar Interchange and Crown Point Bridge
    • Standing traffic on the A6110 Leeds Outer Ring Road between the A58 Whitehall Road and White Rose Centre

    Lots of people either getting away for Christmas or finishing up their shopping obviously.

  15. Rapist who has dementia won't be sent to prisonpublished at 15:59 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2016

    A man from Batley who raped two young girls between the 1960s and 1980s has been told he won't go to jail because he has dementia. 

    The trial of 75-year-old Jeremiah Cummins was halted in September, but another jury went on to find him guilty at a special hearing. 

    Because he has vascular dementia, he can't be put in prison or treated in hospital.   

  16. Leeds lorry driver raises £50,000 for driver killed in Berlin Christmas market attackpublished at 15:15 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2016

    A lorry driver from Leeds has raised nearly £50,000 for the family of the Polish driver who was found dead in the vehicle used in the attack in Berlin on Monday.

    Dave Duncan said he didn't know Lukasz Urban, but wanted the trucking community to make a show of support. 

    The hunt for the main suspect - Anis Amri - is continuing. 

    Police searching for the 24-year-old Tunisian have raided properties in the cities of Dortmund, Emmerich and Berlin.   

  17. Man fined almost £1,000 for ignoring dog fouling penaltypublished at 14:45 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2016

    A man in Leeds has been ordered to pay a total of £947 after he ignored a fixed dog-fouling penalty notice, external.

    Peter Coulson, of Throstle Terrace, was initially handed a £75 fine for not having his dog, which fouled the pavement, on a lead. 

    Mr Coulson was handed the fine at Leeds Magistrates' Court after ignoring the fine and a warning letter. 

    Leeds City Council says after the warning letter, they were "left with no option but to prosecute Mr Coulson through the courts".

  18. Number of refugees set to double in Yorkshirepublished at 14:03 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2016

    The number of Syrian refugees living in Yorkshire will more than double in the next two years, it's estimated.

    Figures from Migration Yorkshire show almost 700 people have already arrived in our region so far. 

    The organisation predicts this number will rise to about 1,700 by the end of 2018.
