Twenty homes were evacuated near the fire at a building in Pudsey, which started at about 22:00. People living in them have all now been allowed to return home.

At its height, 70 firefighters were called to the blaze at Moulds Patterns and Models on Kent Road - seven fire engines are still at the scene.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service say that no one was inside and no one has been hurt.

Roads around the scene have now reopened but a spokesperson said "it is likely that crews will remain on scene for at least the next 24 to 48 hours."

    Quote Message

Crews have done very well to prevent the fire from spreading, especially given that they were working in freezing temperatures through the night."

Lawyers Slater and Gordon commissioned the research which looks into the methods bosses use to recruit new staff.

They say the research found that 60% deliberately excluded younger people when advertising certain roles and that almost a fifth (18%) of bosses admit to unlawfully discriminating when recruiting; specifically women and the over 50s.

The company says the research shows that some employers think it's fine to target specific demographics when advertising for a job.

    Quote Message

A lot of employers admit to unlawfully targeting their job ads at certain groups of individuals, when they're advertising online. This targeted advertising stops certain groups of job seekers from seeing those adverts."

  19. At the scene: Major overnight fire in Leedspublished at 07:36 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2018

I'm outside an industrial unit in Pudsey this morning where fire crews have been tackling a major blaze overnight which led to the evacuation of 20 nearby homes.

Fire sceneImage source, West Yorkshire Fire Service

The smoke is still pluming into the air and the fire is still raging inside the Moulds Patterns and Models site on Kent Road.

However, I'm told that blaze is a gas fire and the mains are now going to be turned off.

The building is 100% damaged at this factory which produces fibreglass and resin moulds for the bathroom, marine construction and coach-building industries

There was a fear there would be some toxic gases and noxious smells but that isn't the case today and people are still being allowed to walk past.

However, the advice is to avoid the area if you can, mainly because of the sheet ice all over the roads which is due to the fire service having used so much water overnight.

Investigations will be continuing today and the cause of this blaze still unknown.

  20. Fracking equipment removed from Kirby Misperton sitepublished at 07:22 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2018

The company planning a fracking operation in North Yorkshire has confirmed it is removing some equipment from its site in Ryedale.

    FrackImage source, PA

The move comes as Third Energy continues its wait for formal government approval to start fracking near Kirby Misperton.

The firm hoped to begin test fracking before the end of last year, but it was held up while waiting for the final go-ahead.

Earlier this month, business secretary Greg Clark signalled a further delay while he waited for an assessment of the company's financial resilience.

Now Third Energy says it's decided to let contractors remove some of the equipment it has gathered at the site so it can be used elsewhere.

The announcement's been welcomed by protesters who have demonstrated continually outside the site since last autumn.
