    Council tax in West Yorkshire is going up to pay for the county's police force.

    Under the force's new budget, it will cost most householders in the county an extra 80p a month.

    West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner, Mark Burns-Williamson, says the number of PCSOs will be safeguarded and it will allow for the recruitment of more than 140 officers.

  3. Three men arrested after 'rogue trader' complaintpublished at 15:09 Greenwich Mean Time 6 February 2018

    Three men from Lancashire have been arrested on suspicion of being rogue traders.

    It comes after an elderly woman in Dunnington says she had been pressurised to buy a new front door by men claiming to be from a home improvement firm.

    A white van was pulled over on Monday morning on the outskirts of York.

    Two of the men arrested are aged 47 and 46 from Bury while a third man is 38-years-old from Blackburn.

    Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.

    People in North Yorkshire are being warned about the signs someone is being stalked or harassed.

    It's part of a new campaign by North Yorkshire Police under the heading No Home Here:

    The signs include the stalker being rejected by the victim, the stalker believing they are in a relationship with their victim, a poor ability to form relationships and using the internet to pursue their victims,

    The force advises people to gather evidence and then call them on 101 or the National Stalking Helpline on 0808 202 0300.

    Keighley Olympic boxer, Muhammed Ali, has been banned for two years after failing a drugs test.

    The 21-year-old flyweight tested positive for the anabolic steroid Trenbolone during the World Series of Boxing in Morocco in April last year.

    He said: "All they caught me with was two nanograms. I can't explain it.

    "I was trying to make 52kg and I wouldn't want to put muscle on. I was literally trying to cut weight. It doesn't make sense."

    Ali, the first member of the British boxing squad to fail a drugs test for a banned substance, will be eligible to compete again in May 2019.

    A man is being questioned by police investigating four stabbings in Sheffield on 23 December.

    The 25-year-old was arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent last night.

    Four men suffered stab wounds after being attacked on Walker Street after an alleged row in the nearby Niche nightclub.

    Last month, one man was charged with violent disorder and possession of an offensive weapon and two men were charged with violent disorder.

    A 34-year-old man has also been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and is currently on bail.

    The organisers of the Tour de Yorkshire are looking for 1,800 people they're calling "Tour Makers" to help with running the race.

    The event is expanding for 2018, so a record number of volunteers are needed.

    Organisers say they "provide a warm welcome" to spectators, and also "offer a point of contact for people wanting logistical information".

    If you want to get involved, you need to register your interest before 23 February.

    Details will then be provided of five training sessions being held across the county.

    The Tour takes place from 3 May through to 6 May.

    A primary school teacher from Huddersfield who was ensnared by paedophile hunters has been given a suspended sentence at Leeds Crown Court.

    Shane Shaw of Greenhead Avenue, Dalton, Huddersfield contacted what he thought was a 15-year-old boy on a gay dating app on Christmas Eve last year.

    The 29-year-old invited the boy - who was in fact an adult - to his mothers home “for a cuddle” and went on to suggest they engage in sexual activity.

    A week later he was confronted by members of a paedophile hunter group who called the police and he was arrested.

    Shaw was given an eight month sentence suspended for two years, 100 hours of unpaid work and order to sign the sex offenders register.

    He’s also been banned from working with children.

    The men in these pictures are wanted by police after a mobility scooter was stolen in Rotherham.

    It was taken from the entrance of Beeversleigh flats on Clifton Lane on 16 December.

    Police have used a stinger device to stop a man suspected of stealing more than £180 of alcohol from a supermarket in Ripon.

    A 22-year-old has been charged with five offences relating to the theft from Morrisons.

    The stinger was deployed to deflate the tyres of a black Fiesta, being driven towards Harrogate via Killinghall.

    The man is due in court later this month.

    Police say they want to speak to this woman after an attack in a Leeds nightclub which left a teenager with concussion.

    It happened at Mission Nightclub at about 03:10 on 28 January.

    Officers say a woman grabbed a 19-year-old woman by the hair and dragged her onto the floor in an unprovoked attack.

    The teenager was left with a concussion requiring hospital treatment.

    The Tour de Yorkshire is now just a few months away and organisers say they need more volunteers than ever to help make the event run smoothly.

    This year the Yorkshire-wide cycle race is has been expanded from three stages to four and they now need 1,800 people to help out.

    Organisers call them "Tour Makers" and are deployed along the race route to provide a "warm welcome" to millions of spectators who come to watch the action.

    Barnsley's Paul Heckingbottom will be the new Leeds United head coach following Sunday's departure of Thomas Christiansen.

    The 40-year-old has signed a deal at Elland Road until the end of 2018-19.

    Heckingbottom led the Tykes to 14th in the Championship last season, after guiding them up through the League One play-offs.

    Leeds are seven points below the play-offs in 10th, while Barnsley are 21st, one point above the relegation zone.

    A commemorative plaque is to be installed in Sheffield to pay tribute to the suffragette movement.

    The Women's Social and Political Union once occupied a shop on Chapel Walk in Sheffield (above).

    It was an active location for suffragettes from 1908 until some women finally got the vote in 1918.

    Following a crowdfunding appeal, a plaque will be installed at the site of the shop in the next few weeks.

    Today marks exactly 100 years since the passing of the Representation of the People Act, which gave women over 30 and "of property" the vote.

    Cupid's Alley in Malton (pictured) is up against 13 other romantically named streets around the country, in a public vote.

    Other lovingly named boulevards include Honey Pot Lane in Colsterworth and Trueloves Lane in Ingatestone.

    The winner will be announced on Valentines Day.

    It's organised by the charity, Living Nation, which aims to get people walking.

    After Bradford City sacked their manager Stuart McCall yesterday he says he's disappointed with the timing of his departure from the club.

    In an exclusive broadcast interview with BBC Radio Leeds he says he feels he could have got the club back to winning ways this weekend.

    McCall was let go after a run of six successive defeats in all competitions.
