    The local MP at the site where a company wants to frack in North Yorkshire says it's right the government takes time to consider the plans.

    It comes as protesters claim a "little victory" in their fight against drilling for shale gas in Ryedale.

    This week lorries have been removing more equipment from Third Energy's site at Kirby Misperton.

    The company says it will be used elsewhere, while it continues to wait for a final decision from the government on whether it can go ahead and drill.

    Jose Morais has been confirmed as the new Barnsley FC manager.

    Morais, 52, has worked with Jose Mourinho at Benfica, Inter, Real Madrid and Chelsea.

    He has most recently managed AEK Athens.

    Morais has agreed an 18 month contract at Oakwell, succeeding Paul Heckingbottom who went to Leeds.

    New operating theatres for minor procedures have opened at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals.

    The move will mean that main theatres can be freed up to deal with more involved surgery, allowing patients to be treated sooner, say officials.

    The new suite brings dedicated facilities for dermatology, plastic surgery and ophthalmology.

    The funeral of the well-known North Yorkshire racehorse trainer Malcolm Jefferson will be held later.

    Malcolm, who trained top-class horses like Dato Star and Cape Tribulation, died earlier this month at the age of 71.

    His daughter Ruth has taken over the training at the family's stables in Malton, North Yorkshire.

    Yorkshire is celebrating the Chinese New Year with news of a huge increase in the number of Chinese visitors to the county.

    Research by Visit Britain shows visitor figures from China have more than doubled in recent years.

    Yorkshire played host to almost 20,000 visitors from China in 2016, compared to 9,000 who chose it as a holiday destination in 2012.

    The city of York is one of several destinations which has benefited, according to Visit Britain.

    ...But nonetheless, it's about to pack some clout as it's this button which will fire up a big furnace in Rotherham when the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall arrive later today.

    Prince Charles is set to do the honours to reignite a previously- mothballed furnace at Liberty Steel.

    It's been dormant for two-and-a-half years, a decision taken as part of measures to cope with the crisis then affecting the steel industry.

    Since then, 300 jobs have been created by Liberty in Rotherham and Stocksbridge, as well as others across the country, as the result of a multi-million pound investment.

    Scott Jackson, Process Manager at the plant, says once the furnace is up and running again it'll be very impressive:

    A man's died after he became trapped under a forklift truck at a scrapyard in Cumbria.

    Firefighters freed the man at Michael Douglas Auto Salvage on Stainton Road in Carlisle, and gave first aid including CPR with a defibrillator, before paramedics took over.

    The casualty, from Skipton, died at the scene.

    Officers are working with the Health and Safety Executive, and preparing a report for the coroner.

    The funeral is due to take place later of Yorkshire Dales farmer Hannah Hauxwell who died last month at the age of 91.

    She rose to fame in the 1970s as the star of several television programmes about life living on a farm in Baldersdale, near Barnard Castle, which had no electricity or running water.

    Viewers saw her struggle to run the 80-acre farm after the death of her parents and attempting to survive on less than £200 per year.

    Nearly 30,000 homes are waiting to be built across Yorkshire long after developers were given planning permission, according to a new study.

    The Local Government Association (LGA) says there are 28,500 uncompleted house builds in the region.

    The figures show it now takes 40 months on average from schemes receiving planning permission to building work being completed – eight months longer than in 2013-14.

    The LGA is now calling for new powers for local authorities to punish tardy builders, such as charging them council tax for every unbuilt property.

    The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall are due to visit Yorkshire later.

    Charles and Camilla will start the morning at Halifax's recently restored Piece Hall by ringing the original trading bell and unveiling a new plaque.

    The Piece Hall is the UK's only surviving 18th Century cloth trading hall re-opened in August after a £19m restoration.

    The opening of the Grade I-listed building was delayed several times since work started in 2014.

    Later this afternoon, Prince Charles is expected to formally restart a mothballed furnace at the Liberty Speciality Steels plant in Rotherham.

    What's being described as "a major milestone" for the steel industry is due to take place in Rotherham later with the formal reigniting of a previously mothballed furnace at Liberty Steel.

    Prince Charles is expected to switch on the furnace which was mothballed by previous owners Tata at the height of the UK steel crisis in 2015.

    Liberty Steel took over in May last year, bringing 300 jobs back to South Yorkshire.

    Executive chairman of Liberty, Sanjeev Gupta, says it will be "a pivotal moment in the revival of UK steelmaking".
