    A publicity stunt aimed at showing how long it would take to drive to another hospital in the event of Huddersfield's A&E department being closed down has backfired.

    The idea was to stage an unofficial race between runners and a car to show how long it takes to get from Kirklees to Calderdale Royal Hospital in Halifax where bosses want to move the A&E.

    However, the car arrived first with the runner about 20 minutes behind it.

    The run was between Holmfirth - which is served by the Huddersfield Royal Infirmary - and the Calderdale Hospital in Halifax.

    NHS managers want all emergency and high-risk care to go to the Calderdale Royal Hospital, but campaigners say they're worried about journey times between parts of Kirklees and Halifax, saying lives could be put at risk.

    A cyclist is in hospital after he crashed with a bus in Doncaster yesterday lunchtime.

    It happened on Cleveland Street at 13:15.

    The 35-year-old man was left with life threatening injuries and is still being treated in hospital.

    South Yorkshire Police say they're looking for witnesses.

    They're as Yorkshire as Pontefract cakes and Michael Parkinson - and now they could win a top national arts award.

    The caps in question were made using a Leeds museum’s vintage looms and are part of the Armley Weave range, external.

    They were created at Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills, once home to the largest woollen mill in the world.

    The Association of Cultural Enterprise has named the Armley Weave range as a finalist in the prestigious ACE Best Product Awards for 2018, with the winners set to be announced in Brighton on 1 March.

    This man from Bradford is currently on the run from police.

    They say they want your help in finding him.

    Mark Meek, 35, is wanted for driving while disqualified in the Manningham area in September last year.

    PC Rowan Boyle from West Yorkshire Police said: “Mr Meek is aware that he is wanted but has refused to hand himself in to the police.

    “A decision to disqualify someone from driving is not taken lightly and is done so for the safety of the driver themselves and other road users."

    Transport police are seeking witnesses to a major brawl at a Lincolnshire station.

    Officers say the fight involving about 20 people broke out on board a train between Lincoln and Sheffield and spilled out onto the platform at Gainsborough Lea Road station (above).

    Officers would like to speak to anyone who saw the incident which happened at around 21:50 on Saturday 27 January.

    Anyone with information is asked to call 0800 40 50 40.

    A couple in Doncaster were threatened by a woman armed with a hammer during a robbery at their home at the weekend.

    It happened at a house on Melrose Close in Balby just after 22:00 on Saturday 10 February.

    The hammer-wielding woman got inside the house and told the couple to hand over cash - she also took food.

    The couple were not harmed but were left "incredibly scared and distressed" according to police.

    South Yorkshire Police say they're looking for a woman aged about 30, of slim build, about 5ft 6ins tall and with black shoulder-length hair.

    She was wearing fingerless gloves, a black jacket, black jeans, black boots and a pink bobble hat.

    A Leeds arts community group which faced a big increase in charges for rehearsal space says a deal it has struck with the council is "good news".

    Originally, Leeds City Council said it wanted to increase the charge of £5-an-hour for hiring space at the Carriageworks Theatre to between £20 and £25.

    This was met with disappointment by Leeds Community Arts Network (LCAN) who said it would put their ability to afford it into jeopardy.

    But today at a meeting the authority agreed that the increase would be kept to £10.

    Matt Stirk from LCAN said "They're going to keep the workshop open so we can go in there, it's good news."

    He received a medal from Adolf Hitler.

    He only had one eye.

    But Barnsley's Archie Stinchcombe, external was part of Great Britain's ice hockey team at the Winter Olympics of 1936.

    Today a blue plaque has been unveiled in Cudworth to mark the achievements of Barnsley's little-known Olympic hero.

    The Mayor of Barnsley did the honours in unveiling the plaque, witnessed by local schoolchildren.

    Archie was born in Cudworth, he grew up in Canada and opted to play for Great Britain when the chance arose.

    Today's unveiling was put together by the local history society in Cudworth.

    Two teenagers in Scarborough have been arrested after a series of attacks on CCTV systems and a burglary earlier this week.

    The incidents all happened on Monday morning. A CCTV system was stolen from Gladstone Road and CCTV wires were cut on outside a house on Cambridge Street.

    Then a house was burgled on Garfield Road where a number of items were stolen - Police say they're investigating to see if the three are linked.

    Two 17-year-old boys have been arrested and released on bail.

  15. Watch: Fire service use drone to help firefighterspublished at 16:11 Greenwich Mean Time 14 February 2018

    A drone is being used to help deal with fires, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service (WYFRS) have revealed.

    It's to give a bird’s eye view of incidents, which will help firefighters when they're tackling large blazes.

    It already in use and was deployed during a fire in Leeds last week when an industrial unit in Pudsey caught fire (above).

    WYFRS also says it will help them in car crashes, flooding, and incidents involving hazardous materials.

    Police in Bradford say they're trying to find this man after he breached the terms of his release from prison They now want to track him down so he can be sent back to jail.

    Jaspal Singh is 35-years-old, 6ft 5ins tall and of "very heavy build".

    West Yorkshire Police say that if anyone sees him, they should call them on 101.

    A man from Nelson is wanted by police after breaching his bail conditions.

    Lancashire Police said Andrew Lowe, of Railway Street, was arrested in January on suspicion of assault and released with bail conditions which he has since broken.

    He is described as white, 5ft 8in tall and of medium build, with short fair hair and blue eyes.

    He also has links to Colne, Blackpool and Skipton in North Yorkshire and police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
