    Improvements to bus services in Leeds will be announced by the council later .

    They want to double the number of journeys over the next decade.

    Money originally earmarked for a scrapped trolleybus scheme in the city will help pay for buses which will be given priority over cars on three key routes into the city.

    There'll also be more park and ride sites for drivers and three new rail stations.

    An update is due today on the long-running police investigation into child abuse in Rotherham.

    Operation Stovewood was set up by the National Crime Agency in 2014.

    It's the largest-ever investigation into non-recent child sexual exploitation.

    New figures show 300 homes in Bradford have been empty for over a decade.

    More than four thousand houses have been standing empty for at least six months.

    The figures are the third highest for any local authority in the country.

    A man from North Yorkshire, who has Type 1 diabetes, says he's being denied a life-changing device on the NHS.

    Kevin Wilson from York trialled the Freestyle Libra which is a patch that cuts down on pricking your finger to test glucose levels.

    Despite it being available on the NHS, Clinical Commissioning Groups in North Yorkshire haven't made a final decision on it.

    The Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group says the funding of it is "under review."

    But, Kevin believes they're stalling because of cost.

    Here's a couple of problems to watch out for this morning:

    A6120 Westbound closed due to burst water main between B6159 Selby Road/ Colton Lane (Skyliner Roundabout) and Knightsway.

    Closed on approach to Cross Gates station. Diversion - via Selby Road and Knightsway.

    M1 northbound lane closed on entry slip road due to accident, car involved and recovery work at J31 A57 (Sheffield / Worksop).

    Traffic is coping well.

    A man, believed to be in his 50s, has died following a fire at his home on Buckenham Street in Sheffield.

    Three fire engines were called to the bungalow just before 18:00 last night.

    Firefighters wearing breathing equipment found the man inside.

    Crews carried out CPR but the man died at the scene.

    An investigation is under way to find out the cause of the fire.

    A petition calling for the East Coast mainline to be brought back into public ownership will be handed to the government later today.

    The Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said earlier this month the government may step in to run the service after the current franchise between Stagecoach and Virgin failed.

    Campaign group "We Own It" are behind the petition.

    They want Chris Grayling to ignore calls from Stagecoach and Virgin to offer them a bailout, instead bringing the line into permanent public ownership.

    An "immersive" sculptural light installation by artist Anthony McCall has opened in West Yorkshire.

    Solid Light Works uses animated sketches beamed onto the walls and cones of light projected into the room.

    On show now at The Hepworth in Wakefield, it is the first exhibition of the artist's work in more than a decade.

    A man was hit and killed by a lorry while walking on the M1 in the early hours of yesterday morning, it's been revealed.

    It happened between junctions 39 and 40 at about 01:00 as the 35-year-old man was walking on part of the northbound carriageway.

    A DAF XF lorry hit him and he suffered serious injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

    West Yorkshire Police say he had initially been walking on the southbound carriageway before crossing to the other carriageway.

    Two cars which were used in a ram-raid at a high-end watch shop in Leeds at the weekend have been discovered.

    Officers said the cars drove through The Core in Leeds before trying to break into Rolex At Prestons in Commercial Street on Sunday morning:

    A red Fiat Stilo and blue Ford Focus ST which were used in the attempted robbery were found in Sayner Lane in Hunslet at about 14:10 this afternoon, according to police.

    Det Insp James Entwistle says: "We'd like to hear from anyone who saw anyone leaving the vehicles there or acting suspiciously in the area at any time since the ram-raid."

    Police have arrested a man for drugs offences after an operation in Keighley to crack down on counterfeit cigarettes.

    Officers visited four shops with West Yorkshire Trading Standards and seized counterfeit cigarettes, tobacco and some "suspicious packages".

    One man was arrested for possession with intent to supply.

    Disease-resistant English elms are being planted in Sheffield as part of a national trial to combat the effects of Dutch elm disease.

    The fungal disease has killed more than 60 million trees in the UK since it arrived in the 1920s.

    Experts say outside a cordon sanitaire in Edinburgh and Bristol there are fewer than 1,000 old elms in the UK.

    The Sheffield initiative will see 24 disease-resistant saplings planted at Greno Woods nature reserve.

    They will be grown in a small area of ancient woodland provided by Sheffield & Rotherham Wildlife Trust following the first planting on Monday.

    Selby Library is to close for nearly two months while it's refurbished.

    The work, to be carried out between 3 March and 25 April, is being carried out to create a dedicated IT zone, an extra meeting room, space for interviews and learning activities.

    The new spaces, which it's hoped will attract more users, will also mean the library will be able to host other services such as Citizens Advice.

    The 52-year-old was given an 18-month contract by the Tykes on Friday, but has already set his sights on a lengthier stint in South Yorkshire.
