    A special hotline is being launched today to help tackle the persecution of birds of prey in Yorkshire.

    Figures revealed at the end of last year showed North Yorkshire has the highest number of birds of prey illegally killed than anywhere else in the country.

    The RSPB hopes the hotline will encourage whistle-blowers in the shooting industry to come forward with information.

    Guy Shorrock is one of the charity's senior investigations officers.

    More than 1,000 Transport for London (TfL)-registered private hire drivers have addresses as far away as Bradford and Cardiff.

    Letters released by the Mayor of London's Office show there were 747 TfL-registered minicab drivers in Birmingham and 378 in Bristol.

    It means local councils in those areas have no control over drivers' licensing or the number on their roads.

    Sadiq Khan has asked the government for greater licensing powers.

    He is calling on the Department for Transport (DfT) for powers to cut the number of licences issued in London and for minicab journeys to begin or end where the driver is registered.

    The family of a North Yorkshire man, who died at a salvage site last week, say he was a "beloved husband" and "hard-working" family man.

    Paul Spence, aged 64, from Skipton, became trapped under a piece of machinery in Cumbria on Thursday.

    Despite being released by fire crews he died at the scene.

    A joint investigation into his death is being carried out by Cumbria Police and the Health and Safety Executive.

    Halifax - A629 Salterhebble Hill and Huddersfield Road busy but moving at the roadworks near the hospital by A646 Dryclough Lane.

    B6380 Beacon Road, Bradford - Beacon Road is closed in both directions due to unsafe building between B6147 Cooper Lane and Mandale Road / Speeton Avenue.

    A19 at Crockey Hill between York and Escrick - heavy traffic on A19 at the roadworks around Wheldrake Lane. Travel time is seven minutes.

    A616 - Midhopestones in South Yorkshire - Traffic heavier than normal and very slow traffic on A616 in both directions near Mortimer Road.

    A mum from Selby is calling on police to prosecute more boy racers for anti-social behaviour.

    Kerry Lumb claims that, for the last 10 years, about 20 of them have been meeting most nights on a Retail Park opposite the Staynor Estate in Selby.

    She says they're doing handbrake turns and speeding across the car park.

    She says it keeps her family up at night and something needs to be done.

    Police are investigating an attempted ram-raid on a jewellery shop in Leeds.

    A group of men in two cars drove into the Rolex shop window yesterday in the city centre.

    They didn't succeed and fled empty-handed.

    Labour Party members in South Yorkshire should get the chance to start voting today on who they want as their candidate for the regional mayoral election in May.

    Sheffield Councillor Ben Curran and Barnsley MP Dan Jarvis are in the running.

    The process was delayed last Friday after Labour members complained that former Sports Minister, Richard Caborn hadn't been shortlisted.

    Mr Caborn says he won't be pursuing legal action over his lack of selection.

    It's 10 years since the staged kidnapping of West Yorkshire schoolgirl Shannon Matthews, and there are claims that some of those responsible still haven't been brought to justice.

    Dewsbury Moor was the scene of a huge police search lasting for more than three weeks before the nine-year-old was found hidden in a divan bed.

    Shannon's mother, Karen was sent to jail, along with Mick Donovan whose flat she was found in.

    Two people who helped catch the pair say they believe others were involved in the plot.

    Karen's former best friend, Natalie Murray, says she always knew things didn't add up.
