    Police are appealing for witnesses after the death of a man who fell off a mobility scooter in Keighley.

    The man was travelling along the pavement on Lawkholme Lane at about 13:10 on Thursday 15 February when his scooter went off the pavement for an unknown reason and came to rest by the side of the road.

    The victim, who had suffered fatal head injuries, was found in the road by members of the public.

    Sgt Ann Drury, from West Yorkshire Police, says: "Due to the serious head injuries suffered by the gentleman there's a possibility he's been struck by another vehicle while immobile on the road.

    "We do also know there were several cars in the locality at the time of the incident and we'd like to speak to the drivers or passengers in particular, as they may have seen what took place."

    A man who failed to attend court after being charged with a serious driving offence is being sought by police in North Yorkshire.

    Marcin Wiczynski, 30, of Scarborough, is wanted after magistrates in the town issued a warrant for his arrest.

    He failed to attend court after he was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

    He is described as about 5ft 7ins tall and of average build. He has short, brown receding hair and speaks with an Eastern European accent.

    Anyone who has seen him or knows his whereabouts is being asked to contact police.

    A mental health nurse has been jailed for eight months for sexually abusing a patient during a home visit.

    Luke Smith, 30, pleaded guilty to sexual activity with a person with a mental disorder at Leeds Crown Court.

    Smith, of Manderston Chase, Armley, lost his job after what he described as "a moment of madness" when the offence happened at the male victim's home in Leeds in January 2017.

    Police are reminding shopkeepers that it is illegal to sell knives to under-18s, after seven out of 23 shops failed a test set by officers.

    The West Yorkshire force, working with underage cadet volunteers, tried to buy knives in 23 shops of varying size.

    He said: "In the wrong hands knives are a potentially lethal weapon. As a senior detective I have seen first-hand the tragic consequences knife crime can have in our communities.

    “It is disappointing therefore that stores sold knives to the young people. The knives sold were mainly large kitchen knives that could easily kill someone."

    There are new calls for the government to guarantee Yorkshire will get extra trains to and from London, despite the East Coast franchise being cancelled.

    Virgin and Stagecoach had promised new services from Leeds, York, Bradford, Harrogate and Huddersfield.

    The West Yorkshire Combined Authority, which oversees transport, has now written to the Transport Secretary, Chris Grayling, asking if they'll still go ahead.

    The letter says: "Businesses in our region have been planning on the basis of a significant in direct services between our towns and cities and London which have now been placed in doubt.

    "Part of the doubt stems from the fact that no decision has been made on who will run the trains."

    Mr Grayling has said he is considering two approaches to the future of the East Coast service.

    One option is to allow Stagecoach to continue operating the franchise on a short-term and not-for-profit basis until a new contract is awarded in 2020.

    Alternatively, East Coast Mainline could be brought back under government control and be run by the Department for Transport through an operator of last resort.

    Police are appealing for information after the discovery of a woman's body in Bradford.

    The body of the 37-year-old woman was found by a member of the public near Wapping Road at about 17:05 yesterday afternoon.

    Police are asking for anyone who saw any suspicious activity or a fire at the location on Sunday night into Monday morning to get in contact.

    Mark Chalmers, 56, (pictured above with his wife Ruth) won the prize in the EuroMillions UK Millionaire Maker draw on 13 February.

    Mr Chalmers says he and his wife, Ruth, 57, now plan to help their two daughters, who are currently in rented accommodation, to get on to the property ladder.

    And he says he has no plans to give up his gardening work just yet.

    "I could never let my customers down. I love my work and the people I work for so I do not have any plans to stop working at the moment," he says.

    "I do have to keep pinching myself as I am constantly thinking this has to be a dream which I am going to wake up from."

    Officers from HM Revenue and Customs has seized six unlawful gambling machines from five pubs in Selby.

    The joint operation was carried out with the Gambling Commission, North Yorkshire Police and Selby District Council.

    Machines were found which were unregistered and discovered duty was not being paid on them, according to HMRC. They say the unpaid tax cost the taxpayer about £19,000.

    The machines were seized as well as £5,500 in cash.

    A man from Doncaster has been jailed after pleading guilty to a street robbery and an attempted burglary.

    Nineteen-year-old Mitchell Kemp of Pickering Road in the town robbed a man, external of his mobile phone near Doncaster transport interchange.

    His fingerprints were also found at the scene of an attempted burglary.

    He's been given two years and nine months in prison.

    Four hundred companies across Hambleton will be getting postcards telling them how to prepare for this year's Tour de Yorkshire.

    The tips will include making sure staff can speak to customers about the race, dressing businesses in the Tour's colours of blue and yellow, adapting opening times around the event and working together.

    Cyclists will pass through Crakehall, Bedale, Morton on Swale , Northallerton, Thirsk and Sutton under Whitestonecliffe before heading up Sutton Bank on Saturday 5 May. There'll be a sprint at Morton on Swale and a King of the Mountains stage on Sutton Bank.

    The Hambleton stage will finish at Scarborough's North Bay.

    The discovery was made yesterday afternoon by a member of the public.

    West Yorkshire Police say the 37-year-old woman was found at about 17:05 on Wapping Road near Shipley Airedale Road and are investigating the circumstances around her death.

    Officers say they are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area on Sunday night into Monday morning to get in contact.

    Today marks two years since the boiler house at Didcot A Power Station collapsed, killing four men.

    Workers Ken Cresswell, 57, John Shaw, 61, both from Rotherham, Michael Collings, 53, from Teesside, and Christopher Huxtable, 34, from Swansea, died in the collapse.

    Sadie Cresswell, daughter of Mr Cresswell, wrote on Facebook that "nobody should go to work and not come home ever".

    Didcot mayor Jackie Billington said the flag at the council's offices was at half mast to remember the victims.

    Thames Valley Police says it is not known when its investigation into the incident will be complete.

    Manslaughter charges are being considered, but the demolition company Coleman and Company, which employed the men, said there were "no grounds" for that.

    Keith Cundall, the lawyer who represents three of the families, said: "The families want answers as to why this tragedy occurred, however they also know that an investigation of this sort will take time."

    It's two years today since a building collapse at Didcot Power Station killed four men, two of them from Rotherham.

    Kenneth Cresswell and John Shaw died after the partial collapse of the boiler house at the Oxfordshire plant.

    Both men had been involved in preparing a tower for demolition when the collapse happened.
