    An sculpture made from 2,000 balls of wool by an internationally acclaimed artist is coming to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park next month.

    You'll be able to see Chiharu Shiota's Beyond Time at the 18th-century Chapel at the park from 30 March.

    The attraction says that Shiota's work "explores personal themes of loss and memory through intricately woven installations, referencing life, death and belonging."

    Her work has been exhibited in major museums around the world including New York, Paris and Kochi.

    Students in York are demanding compensation for teaching hours lost to strike action.

    Today is the first day of 14 planned walk-outs by members of the University and College Union who are involved in a row over pensions.

    Conrad Whitcroft. who studies at the University of York, has organised a petition to ask for money back on the hours that students are missing because of the strike:

    Students at Sheffield and Leeds Universities are also affected.

    The lecturers' employer, Universities UK, says the pension scheme has a six billion pound deficit. The University says they are working hard to draw up contingency plans that will aim to minimise the impact of industrial action.

  3. Hillsborough investigators reviewing evidence of more suspectspublished at 12:25 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2018

    Three former South Yorkshire police officers are having evidence relating to them reviewed by investigators who are probing the Hillsborough disaster.

    Officials are due to make a decision on whether they will be referred to the CPS so criminal charges can be considered.

    The Crown Prosecution Service is also expected to announce whether charges will be brought against two suspects from West Midlands Police within the next three weeks - the force that investigated the aftermath of the 1989 disaster.

    Six people, including match commander and former Ch Supt Int David Duckenfield, are already facing charges related to the disaster and its aftermath.

    Yorkshire have signed Australia international fast bowler Billy Stanlake for the 2018 T20 Blast.

    The 23-year-old, who at 6ft 8in is the tallest player to ever represent his country, is set to play a minimum of 12 games for the Vikings.

    The paceman helped Australia win the Trans-Tasman Twenty20 tri-series against New Zealand on Wednesday.

    "It'll be a great experience and hopefully an exciting few weeks," he said.

    "It's a huge club with great history and tradition and I've only heard positive things from the guys who have been there in the past."

    A two-year-old girl is in hospital with suspected serious injuries after she was hit by a car in Rotherham.

    Police say she was hit by a black BMW 3 series on Meadow Bank Road at the junction with Wilton Lane at about 20:00 last night.

    The BMW was travelling towards the Kimberworth area.

    Witnesses are asked to contact police.

    Two people have been arrested after class A drugs, £5,000 cash and a handgun were found in a property in Sheffield.

    The force's Sheffield Tasking Team searched an address in the Burngreave area yesterday as part of Operation Citadel.

    Police say the handgun is suspected of being an air gun known as an airsoft.

    Yorkshire born Ed Sheeran has said he would be up for writing a Eurovision entry for the United Kingdom - but wouldn't want to perform it himself.

    The superstar, who started life in Halifax, is now one of Britain's biggest pop exports in recent years.

    Meanwhile, the UK hasn't won Eurovision since 1997.

    "I would love to write a Eurovision song," he said. "I don't know that I'd ever enter it singing it. But I don't think the rest of Europe wants England to win because of history and stuff."

    North Yorkshire Police are warning van owners not to leave tools in the back of their vehicles after six vans were broken into earlier this week.

    The break-ins happened overnight on Monday.

    Tools were taken from three vans in the Northstead area of Scarborough, one van was targeted in Rillington, and the other two incidents were in Muston and Filey.

    Three people in Bradford have been arrested after police stopped a stolen car and subsequently found drugs at the home of the suspect.

    It happened in the early hours of this morning when officers spotted a stolen Renault Megane heading towards the Greengates area.

    Police arrested a 29-year-old man and a 17-year-old girl on suspicion of burglary.

    Officers then found out the man lived nearby, they searched the house and found amphetamines and some cannabis plants.

    Another woman at the house was also arrested for drugs offences.

    An £800,000 CT scanner has been bought by Sheffield Children's Hospital Charity to help diagnose illnesses in young patients.

    The dual-imaging machine allows radiologists to produce multiple scans quickly, making the process more comfortable for patients.

    Staff and volunteers raised £700,000 during a fundraising appeal last year, with the final £100,000 being donated by three businessmen.

    Hundreds of university lecturers are on strike across Yorkshire in a row over changes to their pensions.

    Members of the University and College Union are involved in the industrial action.

    Universities UK, which represents the institutions, says the changes are needed to meet the rising cost of the existing pension scheme.

    Students at York, Sheffield and Leeds will be affected by today's action which is the first of 14 days of strikes.

    Sheffield Hallam University is to invest £220m on new buildings and redeveloping existing ones.

    More than a 150 roles may be cut today as Bradford Council sets its budget for the next two years.

    The authority also plans to put up council tax by almost six per cent.

    CCTV images have been released by police after a spate of burglaries in Doncaster.

    The images (above) show two men wanted in connection with burglaries in Belle Vue Avenue, Doncaster at about 14:25 and another on Harlington Road, Mexborough at about 16:15 on Friday, 26 January.

    Officers want to trace a grey Seat Ibiza which was spotted in both areas.

    The car has a wheel trim missing on the front driver's side and is believed to have false number plates.
