    One of the UK's biggest electronics retailers has collapsed into administration after talks with buyers failed to secure a sale.

    Maplin, which has more than 200 stores and 2,300 staff, will continue to trade through the process.

    The firm has a head office in Rotherham.

    The business faced the slump in the pound after the Brexit vote, weak consumer confidence and a withdrawal of credit insurance.

    Maplin has 2,335 staff, 217 stores and an annual turnover of £235.8m.

    It operates in the UK and Ireland and has head offices in London and Rotherham.

    There have been many heroes dealing with the snow today across the region.

    This was the scene on Thorpe House Road in Sheffield at 11:00 this morning where a stranded ambulance with a patient in the back was helped by Edale Mountain Rescue.

    A baby has been rescued in North Yorkshire after getting locked in a car.

    Firefighters were called to the incident in Rawcliffe on the outskirts of York this morning.

    Fire and rescue officials say when crews got to the scene a mechanic had managed to get in to the car without causing any damage.

    The child was released unharmed.

    Slow traffic and delays to your journey are expected across South Yorkshire because of snowy conditions.

    The A1M southbound is completely closed at J5 M18 following an earlier accident involving 13 vehicles.

    M1 Southbound is closed at J31 - J30 after an earlier accident. Queues back to J32. Slow northbound in the same area.

    Some bus services are being diverted, others are terminating short of their destination if roads are too tricky.

    The advice is to visit the Travel South Yorkshire website , externalfor the latest changes.

  13. Watch: A slow drive in the snow to Ellandpublished at 12:53 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    You'll remember the recent craze for "slow TV" - programmes that amble along, like the two hour "the canal trip".

    Basically just a camera on a canal boat travelling along. That's it, no gimmicks, no music, just canal, boat and birdsong.

    Some people called it boring, other inspirational, here's West Yorkshire's version - a drive to Elland this morning along Blackley Road in the snow.

  14. A1 closed after 'multi-vehicle crash'published at 12:41 Greenwich Mean Time 28 February 2018

    The A1 is closed in both directions between the A57/A614 and B6387 in Nottinghamshire because of a multi-vehicle crash with long delays in both directions, says Highways England.

    On other roads:

    • The A1 northbound has been closed about three miles north of Alnwick due to a three-lorry collision, external
    • There are major problems on both the M1 and A1(M) in South Yorkshire
    • The A11 in between Thetford and Norwich is nearly cleared and work is under way to also clear the A47
    • The A12 in Norfolk is closed southbound between the B1370 and B1375 due to a multi vehicle collision.
    • A lane is closed on the M62 (pictured) in West Yorkshire between J30 and J31 near Castleford following a van fire

    Here's the latest picture of conditions at Leeds Bradford Airport.

    The runway is currently closed to planes both landing and taking off.

    A full scale snow clearing operation is currently underway.

    Phil Forster, the airport's Aviation Development and Corporate Affairs Manager, says they're hoping to have the snow cleared by 13:30 this afternoon.
