    It's thought about 900 schools are closed across Yorkshire as the extreme wintry conditions continue.

    There are more than 250 schools closed in both North and South Yorkshire and close to 400 shut in West Yorkshire.

    We've been hearing of lots of school closures today in Yorkshire.

    And in South Yorkshire this is the scene in Sheffield city centre.

    The UTC Sheffield schools in the city centre and at the Olympic Legacy Park are both among the closures.

    If you're catching a train in Yorkshire this morning, it's worth checking here first, as wintry weather is affecting many services.

    Snow and ice is causing delays and cancellations across the rail network, with several routes currently blocked because of the wintry conditions.

    Northern Rail's advice to customers is to only travel if absolutely necessary and check your journey beforehand.

    Virgin Trains East Coast is hoping to run most services from Leeds as usual, but says some will probably be cancelled. It's also advising anyone meant to be going from Yorkshire to Scotland today not to travel.

    Two North Yorkshire hospitals are urging people to consider other NHS healthcare options first as staff cope with pressures from the extreme weather.

    The plea comes from Harrogate Hospital, which has offered staff lifts in four wheel drive vehicles, so they can get to work today, and The Friarage, in Northallerton, which says people should only attend if absolutely necessary.

    Mike Forster, from Harrogate Hospital, says patients should still go there if they need treatment, but says people should get advice on exploring alternatives:

    Harrogate hospital praised their staff on Twitter yesterday evening, saying some of them travelled for more than five hours to get to work to help patients and support their colleagues.

    Virgin Trains East Coast is advising customers travelling to and from Scotland, from stations across Yorkshire not to travel today.

    The company says it is hoping to run most services from Leeds as usual - but says some will probably be cancelled.

    Passengers are advised to check before travelling and to expect a number of services.

    Investigations begin today into the cause of a bridge collapse in Skipton in North Yorkshire, which saw two cars plunge into the water below.

    Two other vehicles were left hanging precariously over the edge.

    No one was injured and emergency services secured the scene last night.

    It's not yet clear what caused the collapse.

    More than 550 were closed across the county yesterday due to the snow.

    A bridge over a beck in Skipton has collapsed this afternoon.

    Two cars have fallen into the rubble and shallow water below.

    It is believed there were no injuries in the incident.

    The area was being used as a car park.

    Colleen Bray, who lives in Skipton said: "There's been a lot of issues with flooding in the car park."
