    The attempted murder of a woman by her husband in Bradford has been described by police as as a "shockingly violent attack".

    Turkan Lowmani, 33, attacked his wife, Luftia, when he returned home from work last August and found her talking to a man on her phone.

    He stabbed her at least 20 times.

    Lowmani has been sentenced to 19 years in jail today after he was found guilty at a trial in January.

    Det Ch Insp Stuart Spencer from West Yorkshire Police said: "Lowmani is fortunate his partner survived what can only be described as a shockingly violent attack.

    "The fact it took place in front of their children is even more shocking and I hope the victim and her children will find some comfort in the verdict of the court."

    A 53-year-old man was left with serious fractures to his leg after he was hit by a car in Elland Road following Leeds United's game at the weekend.

    Police say they want witnesses to come forward after the incident which happened at about 16:50 on Saturday.

    He was hit by a red Ford Fiesta as fans were leaving after the match.

    He was taken to hospital but his injuries aren't believed to be life-threatening.

    The 62-year-old man who was driving the Fiesta has been interviewed by police.

  4. Humberside Police inquest spy officers 'acting on orders'published at 16:55 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2018

    Two Humberside Police officers accused of spying on a woman from Halifax whose brother died in custody would have been acting on orders, a misconduct panel has heard.

    Former paratrooper Christopher Alder, 37, died in Hull in 1998. An inquest found he died unlawfully.

    The two officers, who have not been named, appeared at a Humberside Police misconduct hearing in Goole earlier.

    They are accused of gross misconduct over the unauthorised surveillance of Janet Alder (pictured above).

    Mr Alder (pictured above) choked to death while lying face down and unconscious in a pool of blood in a police custody suite as a group of officers stood chatting nearby.

    The officers, referred to only as officer one and two, are accused of carrying out surveillance on Ms Alder and her barrister Leslie Thomas QC on 28 July 2000 "without appropriate authorisation and justification".

    The hearing continues.

    A motorist from West Yorkshire has been convicted of careless driving after he admitted giving a cyclist a tow while holding onto the vehicle's window.

    Adam Hurst, 22, from Huddersfield, committed the offence on the A72, near Peebles, in Scotland, in September.

    Selkirk Sheriff Court heard he let his brother hold onto the open window and gave him a tow at 30mph.

    He admitted careless driving and was fined £375 and had his licence endorsed with five penalty points.

    Human bones found on land in Barnsley have been identified as being the remains of a man who went missing in March 2015.

    South Yorkshire Police say Martin Radford was 57 when he went missing and now officers using "incredibly specialised areas of forensic science" have identified him.

    Mr Radford was last seen at the end of March 2015 and police say they haven't "established any apparent criminality" to his death.

    They now say they're trying to piece together what happened to him and want anyone with any information about him to come forward.

    Police investigating the discovery of human bones near Barnsley say they have identified who they belonged to.

    They say they are the remains of Martin Radford.

    His family have been informed.

  8. Man jailed for stabbing his wife 21 timespublished at 16:04 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2018

    A father-of-three from Bradford, who thought his wife was having an affair and stabbed her 21 times in the back, has been jailed for 19 years for attempted murder.

    Turkan Lowmani, 33, attacked his wife Luftia after he returned home from work last August and found her talking to a man on her phone.

    Lowmani, described as a doting father, wrongly believed his wife was having an affair, Bradford Crown Court heard.

    He stabbed her with a kitchen knife while the couple's children were in the home on Idle Road, Bradford.

    Lowmani, who had no previous convictions, was found guilty today by a jury of attempted murder charge following his trial last month.

    As you'll know all too well by now, Yorkshire is braced for the Beast from the East over the next few days - with the weather system bringing sub-zero temperatures and snow.

    Highways England is also warning drivers to "be prepared" when they set off for journeys over the next few days.

    The agency, who look after the country's major road network, say that rush hour tomorrow morning could be particularly affected by the snow.

    Richard Leonard from Highways England said “If you need to travel in the morning, make sure you keep your distance and reduce your speed."

    “Drivers should plan their journey, monitor weather reports and pack a snow kit of blankets, food, water and a shovel if they really need to travel.”

    Images showing a man trying to gain access to a house in Huddersfield have been released by police.

    The incident took place at about 01:30 on Wednesday 21 February on Armitage Road.

    Police describe the suspect as a white male in his late teens or early 20's and of a slim build.

    He was wearing dark trousers and a dark jacket with light-coloured patches to the upper chest and a two-tone coloured woolly hat and black gloves.

  16. Man dies in A34 minibus and lorry crash in Hampshirepublished at 14:50 Greenwich Mean Time 26 February 2018

    A man has died and three others have been injured after the minibus they were travelling in was involved in a crash with a lorry in Hampshire.

    Five people were travelling in the white Ford Transit mini-bus when it hit a lorry on the A34 southbound at Sutton Scotney Services at about 04:40 GMT.

    A 36-year-old man, who was one of the passengers, died at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed.

    A 19-year-old man, from Durham, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

    Three other passengers, two 25-year-old men and a 24-year-old man - all from North Yorkshire, were injured - one seriously.

    A man aged 60 is in hospital with "life-threatening injuries" after an assault in the Royston area of Barnsley.

    Meanwhile a 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault following the attack on Milgate Street last Thursday at about 17:05.

    He was also arrested for possession of Class A drugs and driving offences and has since been released under investigation.

    Police say the 60-year-old man remains in a critical but stable condition and are encouraging anyone with information to call 101.

    Folklore suggests that Robin Hood died at Kirklees Priory, West Yorkshire, where he fled after leaving the safety of Sherwood Forest to be treated by nuns under the care of the Prioress, Elizabeth de Staynton.

    Sheffield trainer Glyn Rhodes has paid tribute to Scott Westgarth after the boxer died in hospital following a light-heavyweight fight in Doncaster on Saturday.

    Mr Rhodes posted a message on his Facebook page saying Scott was loved by everybody at Sheffield Boxing Club from "the babies to the old timers".
