    The Met Office has issued a Yellow warning of snow showers for Yorkshire this afternoon.

    Snow is expected to become more persistent and more widespread through the afternoon and evening.

    The Met Office say there's the potential for travel delays on roads, stranding of some vehicles and passengers, as well as delays or cancellations to rail and air travel.

    They warn that some rural communities could become cut off, power cuts may also occur and other services, such as mobile phones, may be affected.

    The Constituency Labour Party in Heeley has passed a motion opposing the Private finance deal with contractor Amey.

    A North Yorkshire mayoress who's recovering from breast cancer is losing her locks for charity later.

    Cherry Smith, mayoress of the borough of Scarborough, has just started chemotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer late last year.

    She's having her head shaved this afternoon to raise money for breast cancer care and says she didn't want her hair falling out when performing civic duties:

    Sir Tom will entertain the crowds as part of a music showcase on 27 July.

    An accident on the A64 at York has temporarily closed the road eastbound at the junction with the York outer ring road.

    Witnesses say the crash involved a lorry and several cars.

    Vehicles involved in the incident are said to be stationary in both lanes of the road.

    British boxer Scott Westgarth has died in hospital after falling ill following a light-heavyweight fight in Doncaster on Saturday.

    The 31-year-old won the eliminator bout on points against Dec Spelman.

    He appeared to be in pain during post-fight interviews and was then taken to hospital after falling ill backstage.

    The rest of the show, headlined by Curtis Woodhouse who was due to fight in a Commonwealth light-welterweight title eliminator, was cancelled.

    A consultation ends today about a plan that could see hundreds of new homes being built on green belt land in Leeds.

    Areas such as Guiseley, Rawdon and Menston are earmarked as part of the proposals.

    Leeds City Council says it's made changes to protect 33 green belt sites and says it needs to meet the future housing needs for the city.

    Manchester City's win at Wembley was not the only football cup event taking place over the weekend.

    The 2018 FA People's Cup - the biggest five-a-side tournament in the country - kicked off with more than 50,000 players taking part across 278 venues.

    A man in his 30's was rescued from the balcony of his second floor flat in Sheffield yesterday morning.

    Firefighters say the blaze started in the ground floor flat on White Thorns View in the Batemoor area at about 01:30 on Sunday morning.

    Several adjoining upper floor flats were affected by smoke and residents had to be evacuated.

    The man in his 30's was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and residents had to spend a night in temporary accommodation.

    People who enjoy walking in cities - not just the countryside - are being encouraged to vote on whether where they live is "pedestrian friendly".

    The Ramblers, a British walking charity, says it wants to highlight the places where those on foot come first by launching Britain's Best Walking Neighbourhood Award.

    It's already drawn up a shortlist of ten and one of the areas flying the flag for Yorkshire is Stocksbridge.

    Councillors in York are expected to meet this week to try to put an end to a leadership crisis.

    It's after they failed to reach agreement last week on who should be the new council political head.

    David Carr, from the Conservative group, was dismissed as leader by his colleagues after a row involving his decision to sack a senior councillor.

    He was temporarily replaced as Conservative leader by Cllr Ian Gillies, but he lost a leadership vote last week and for now Lib Dem deputy leader, Andrew Waller, is acting leader until a permanent one is chosen.

    It's thought a new leader will be appointed on 8 March.

    The man in charge of the main rail service between Yorkshire and London will be questioned by MPs later.

    David Horne, from Virgin Trains East Coast, is one of several bosses giving evidence about the way the rail network is organised.

    It comes after Virgin's contract to run the east coast mainline was cut short, because the company is running out of money.

    The East Coast Mainline franchise was taken into public ownership in 2009 after being run by National Express.

    It was reprivatised when Stagecoach and Virgin signed a deal to run the East Coast line from 2015 to 2023, promising to pay the government £3.3bn to run the service.

    Stagecoach owns 90% of the joint venture and Virgin owns the remaining 10%.

    A woman from Thorne in Doncaster is flying to Mumbai later this week hoping rare stem cell treatment can help her walk again.

    Kim Davies has been in a wheelchair since an operation to remove a tumour on her spine in 2014.

    The tumour was removed but Kim was unable to walk.

    Some experts have questioned whether the operation in Mumbai will work, but Kim says she has nothing to lose:

    Four years of delays begin on York's outer ring road today as the first phase of a £38m project to speed up journey times on the A1237 get under way.

    Clearance work is due to start on the Wetherby Road roundabout (pictured).

    It's the first of seven roundabouts set for improvements over the next four years.

    The council say there'll be delays during construction.

    Police in Doncaster are looking for the owner of two stolen World War Two medals.

    The Defence Medal and the War Medal both feature an image of King George VI on the reverse.

    The medals were found in a distinctive red and yellow pouch after two women and three men were arrested on Saturday.

    Officers believe the medals were stolen from Doncaster or the surrounding area.

    A man has been charged with possessing an imitation firearm after armed police were called to a York pub.

    Officers went to the Cross Keys on Goodramgate at 17:50 on Friday following reports of a man with a gun.

    The city centre bar was evacuated and police arrested a local man in his 30s. They said he had an air pistol.

    He has been released on bail and will appear at York Magistrates' Court in April.
