The proposed development - which isn't part of the university's new £220m Campus Masterplan - could include restaurants, a hotel, conference facilities and residential units.

The proposals for the high rise building on Sheaf Street were unveiled in front of 24,000 international property professionals in Cannes last week.

Daniel Ladbury, director of estates at Sheffield Hallam, said: “The proposition has been developed with Sheffield City Council's Core Strategy in mind: the site lies within the Sheffield Urban Area which encourages and promotes major development, vibrant and engaging street scenes."

  2. Right on time: Changing clocks means missed appointmentspublished at 13:17 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2018

The clocks go forward this weekend, which can sometimes have interesting results, as researchers at the University of York have discovered.

They claim more people miss hospital appointments when the clocks change.

Scientists analysed over two million NHS outpatient appointments and say the rate of missed appointments increases significantly around the time of clock changes - such as the one coming up at the weekend.

They've added the admonishing inclusion of a financial statistic. They say each missed appointment cost the NHS £120.

The idea of moving the clocks forwards and backwards was discussed by the government in 1908, but wasn't made law in the UK until 1916.

When the clocks change we are moving to British Summer Time (BST).

  20. Schools join campaign to help children 'GULP'published at 09:27 Greenwich Mean Time 19 March 2018

Schoolchildren and parents are being encouraged to give up fizzy pop for a month under a new campaign launched by Sheffield City Council.

    Fizzy pop bottles

GULP, which stands for Give Up Loving Pop, aims to teach children and adults about how sugar intake can cause obesity, heat disease, diabetes and tooth decay.

The council says young people in Sheffield are consuming more than two and half times more sugar than the maximum recommended daily intake - most of which comes from sugary drinks.

Three schools - Forge Valley, Yewlands Academy and Parkwood Academy- have signed up to the campaign which involves families ditching pop for a month in favour of healthier alternatives.

    Quote Message

Given the current push on banning sales of energy drinks to children and the imminent introduction of a sugary drinks tax, we saw the GULP campaign as a fantastic way to raise awareness within Forge Valley."
