    Staff at two colleges in West Yorkshire are to be balloted over strike action.

    Staff at Bradford College and Kirklees College are being asked about the action over plans to cut jobs and change contracts.

    The University and College Union (UCU) claims Bradford College plans to cut 75 jobs and Kirklees College plans to axe 52 jobs.

    Bradford College says fewer students means it has to realign its resources, while Kirklees College says learning won't be impacted by the changes.

    Julie Kelley, from the UCU, said: "Job cuts would ultimately hit students the hardest. They would mean fewer learning opportunities for the people of Bradford and Kirklees."

    The chief executive of Sheffield City Council earns over £40,000 more than the Prime Minister, new figures have revealed.

    John Mothersole (pictured) earns more than £184,000, according to new figures released by the Taxpayers' Alliance.

    Others, including executive directors Jayne Ludlam, Laraine Manley and Eugene Walker all earn between £132,541 and £121,437, according to the organisation.

    The decision to sack a long-serving coxswain at Scarborough's lifeboat station was not made locally, according to a statement.

    Writing on Facebook, John Senior, the operations manager at Scarborough RNLI, said the decision to suspend and then stand down Tom Clark "was not taken locally".

    They say a lot of anger has been directed at the station and the RNLI as a whole.

    They ask that people respect the volunteers and the hard work they do.

    Coxswain Tom Clark was dismissed after leading an"unauthorised' launch, something he disputes.

    Police in Scarborough want to talk to her after a woman tried add a name to a bank account with a suspected fake ID.

    It happened at the Westborough branch of the Halifax Bank in June last year.

    North Yorkshire Police say if she had been successful she would have had access to several thousands pounds.

    Officers say they have carried out "extensive inquiries" but haven't been able to identify her.

    Police say they need your help to find a missing woman from Leeds.

    Emalyn Pajo was last seen on Duncan Street on 2 April at about 20:00.

    She had been on a shopping trip to the city with a friend and she hasn't been seen since.

    West Yorkshire Police say she is originally from the Philippines and they are concerned for her welfare.

  13. Watch: Driver jailed after high-speed Sheffield chasepublished at 16:20 British Summer Time 12 April 2018

    A driver has been jailed for two and a half years after leading police on a high-speed chase around Sheffield.

    Warren Grey, 33, of Derby Street, Sheffield, drove off from police in the early morning with speeds on the Sheffield Parkway reaching 70mph.

    He crashed the vehicle, ran home, then called police to say his car had been stolen.

    Police arrested him at his home.

    A group in York are appealing for more volunteers to help promote and preserve the city's historic walls.

    Friends of York City Walls was established back in 2011 to look after the medieval structure which is built on top of Roman walls which Vikings covered with earth and a tall wooden fence.

    The Viking structure was replaced in the 13th and 14th centuries with the stone wall we know today.

    According to the city's tourism office, more than two-and-a-half million people walk along the 3.4km length each year.

    Friends of York City Walls say they now need more volunteers to help guide people around the walls and to help maintain them.

    A man has been left with potentially life-altering facial injuries after being attacked near Sheffield city centre.

    It happened near Club Garden Walk, just off London Road in the east of the city, at around 23:00 last night.

    Police are appealing for information.

    A man who abducted a 12-year-old girl from a park in Bradford, raped her three times and then took her to a house where she was raped again by five other men has been jailed for 23 years today.

    Ibrahim Hussain, 35 of Woodcross Court, West Bowling, Bradford, forced the girl to go with him and attacked her and then took her to a house in Leeds where she was attacked by five other unknown men.

    Judge David Hatton QC told Hussain "There she was raped by what can only be described as essentially a pack of ravenous wolves,"

    During his trial the court heard how he was already on bail for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl he had contacted through Facebook.

    Judge Hatton confirmed that Hussain will serve half of his jail term before being considered for release, but he will not be let out until the Parole Board decide it is safe to do so.
