    More details have been released after two dumper trucks were stolen from a building site and were used to destroy CCTV cameras.

    West Yorkshire Police say they were called just before 22:50 to Kendal Drive in Halton Moor, where one of the trucks had been driven into a CCTV camera mounted on a post in the street.

    The dumper truck had then overturned, officers then discovered a further two cameras had been damaged in the same way.

    The police helicopter was also called in and the second truck was spotted abandoned in woodland off Halton Moor Road.

    The trucks were taken from a construction site in Knowsthorpe Lane and driven through concrete bollards, a subway under the M1 and across Temple Newsam golf course, causing damage to it.

    A man has been cleared of raping a 16-year-old girl in an attack in Bradford more than 20 years ago.

    Anthony Mottram, 49, of Weeland Road, Sharlston Common, Wakefield, was charged after DNA evidence linked him to the scene in Fairweather Green.

    The victim, who is now 37, was attacked as she walked on an area of land called The Filler on 10 June 1997.

    A jury at Leeds Crown Court found him not guilty of rape, indecent assault and possession of an offensive weapon.

    The number of schools in North Yorkshire where children are trained in cycling safety is to be cut.

    The county council's blaming a 30% drop in the number of places funded by a government grant for the decision.

    It says it will now concentrate the training on schools in areas with road safety issues.

    People who look at indecent images of children online in West Yorkshire are being warned they will be caught unless they stop now.

    For the first time West Yorkshire Police say they're "publicly reaching out" to people who view indecent images of under 18-year-olds online.

    Last year the force says it arrested 149 adults for downloading or sharing indecent images of children - they included four company directors, two solicitors and four people working in the computer industry.

    Officers are now encouraging anyone with concerns about their online habits to seek help, pointing out that charities exist to give them support.

    Drivers in York are being warned of delays through some forthcoming roadworks.

    The city council will be replacing what it describes as "ageing and unreliable" traffic lights at the junction of Tadcaster Road and St.Helen's Road.

    The work starts next Monday and is expected to last up to six weeks.

    Police in North Yorkshire are searching for a wanted man who has been recalled to prison.

    James Connors, 26, of Malton, was jailed for burglary, and released in January 2018.

    However, officers say his release licence was revoked on 19 April, after he breached his curfew conditions, and he will be returned to prison.

    Police say Connors has links to Malton and Leeds, and therefore may be in North or West Yorkshire.

    Anyone who sees him is asked to contact the police.

    Senior councillors in North Yorkshire have backed plans to end free school transport for young disabled people who are over the age of 16.

    If it goes ahead it will leave families paying nearly £500 a month.

    Two tipper trucks were stolen from a building site in Leeds last night , with one of them being abandoned on a housing estate after causing what police describe as "lots of damage".

    West Yorkshire Police brought in the force's helicopter to track the vehicles down after they had been taken.

    The team which operates the helicopter say they "weren't too difficult to spot" on the thermal camera.

    Men posing as tree surgeons have stolen £800 from the home of a Sheffield pensioner.

    Police say the pensioner was the victim of a distraction burglary, external at his home on Southey Drive in Southey Green.

    They're urging people to be on their guard over cold-callers and to avoid keeping large amounts of cash at home.

    Earlier we told you about the surprising West Yorkshire venue where world-renowned keyboard player and prog rock superstar Rick Wakeman is due to play later this week.

    The famous ivory-tinkler and Grumpy Old Men star is due to perform on Thursday and Friday - but not at the O2 in Leeds or the stands of the Scarborough Open Air Theatre.

    Instead, the keyboardist, who has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of prog giants Yes, is playing two nights at Boston Spa's Methodist Church.

    The Reverend Steve Jakeman says it all came about after he emailed Rick with details of a project to refurbish the community church.

    "For the opening last year we wanted to make a big splash, so I cheekily emailed him and - to our delight - he drove up and did a piano concert," he said.

    "We were packed to the rafters. If it was a horizontal surface somebody sat on it," the Revd Jakeman added.

    "He stayed and chatted to everybody for hours afterwards and I said, 'It would be great if you'd come again' and he said he'd love to. So I've held him to it."

    The teenager was last seen on 10 April and officers believe she may be in the Ecclesall Road area.

  17. Leeds United team to tour crisis-stricken countrypublished at 13:02 British Summer Time 24 April 2018

    Leeds United are to go on a post-season tour of Myanmar, a place the UN described as having a "textbook example of ethnic cleansing" and which is said to be the world's fastest growing refugee crisis.

    There are travel warnings in place for areas of Myanmar, but the club will play games in areas not covered by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's guidance.

    Leeds United's social media accounts have advised fans "to wait for further advice", external before arranging travel to the country, which is also known as Burma.

    What do we know about the crisis in Myanmar?

    • More than 500,000 have fled the destruction of their homes and persecution in the northern Rakhine province of Myanmar since August 2017
    • Myanmar's military says it is fighting Rohingya militants and denies targeting civilians
    • The Rohingya have their own language and culture and say they are descendants of Arab traders and other groups who have been in the region for generations
    • But the government of Myanmar, a predominantly Buddhist country, denies the Rohingya citizenship - refusing to recognise them as a people and views them as illegal immigrants from Bangladesh.

  18. Washing machine drugs police inspector must pay £135,000published at 12:45 British Summer Time 24 April 2018

    A former police inspector who was found with 11kg of cocaine in his washing machine has been ordered to pay more than £135,000 or face more time in prison.

    Keith Boots, 55, of Norman Lane, in Eccleshill, was jailed for 26 years in March last year for stealing drugs seized by West Yorkshire Police and selling them back to criminal gangs.

    When his colleagues raided his Bradford home they found cocaine, crack cocaine, heroin, ecstasy and cannabis with an estimated street value of £700,000.

    Boots now has to pay back £135,280.90 in the next three months, or he faces another 18 months in prison.

    They've enlisted a big name to start their city centre cycle dash on 5 May: Dame Jessica Ennis-Hill will cut the ribbon.

    England test captain Joe Root is hoping the ECB's proposed '100 balls' format for its new city-based tournament will grow interest in the longer forms of the game.

    Sheffield-born Root wants to bring new fans to the game who might struggle to be attracted by five-day matches in the Test cricket format.

    Southampton, Birmingham, Leeds, London, Manchester, Cardiff and Nottingham have been selected as venues for the five-week competition, which starts in 2020.

    Both Lord's and The Oval will host newly-created teams in the competition with Headingley, the Ageas Bowl, Edgbaston, Old Trafford, the Swalec Stadium and Trent Bridge the other grounds chosen.
