    There are travel warnings in place for areas of Myanmar, but the Championship club will play games in areas not covered by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office's (FCO) guidance, external.

    The two matches will be on 9 and 11 May against a Myanmar National League All-Star team in Yangon, also known as Rangoon, and the country's national team in Mandalay.

    Leeds say players and coaches will run football sessions with local children and will visit cultural sites, such as Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, and the Maha Myat Muni Pagoda in Mandalay.

    More than half a million of Myanmar's Rohingya Muslim minority have fled the country because of an ongoing military offensive in Rakhine.

    The charity Crimestoppers is underlining the serious issue of gang crime on the lives of people in Doncaster.

    It's hoped by highlighting the impact of such crime people will be more inclined to anonymously report incidents.

    Crimestoppers, external say criminal gang groups in areas such as Mexborough and Edlington recruit individuals to cause intimidation, threats and damage before moving onto more serious offences relating to drugs and firearms.

    Leeds United have announced a post-season tour of Myanmar, despite an ongoing military offensive in the country.

    I've spoken to Leeds about the trip, which is sponsored by a bank. The region has a population of around 50 million people and is seen as a market of interest and one that can afford the visit of Leeds.

    The president of the Myanmar FA/League is a wealthy industrialist and, along with the rest of Asia, is Premier League-obsessed. Leeds see this as a chance to grow the club.

    Stadiums have been checked and will comply to Fifa standards, with tickets expected to be a few dollars and crowds hoped to be around 20,000 fans.

    The first-team squad will be travelling to Myanmar except for those on World Cup and international duty such as Pontus Jansson.

    The FCO also warns that "terrorists are likely to try to carry out attacks".

    The United Nations described the issues in the northern Rakhine province as a "textbook example of ethnic cleansing".

    The RSPCA says it received more than 2,000 complaints about the treatment of horses in Yorkshire last year, making the county one of the worst in the country.

    The charity says some owners believe it's not financially worthwhile getting a vet to treat a horse that's close to death and sometimes throw horses out with the rubbish.

    West Yorkshire was the worst offender in the country with 925 complaints.

    More than 500 complaints were made about the treatment of horses in North Yorkshire and 424 were received in South Yorkshire.

    Train passengers are being warned to expect delays to Northern services in West Yorkshire following an incident this morning.

    The rail company says disruption was caused when trespassers forced the closure of lines between Halifax and Bradford Interchange.

    In its latest update, Northern says all lines have now reopened, but disruption is likely to continue until about 10:00.

    A Leeds campaigner who fought to get women the vote will be honoured as part of a statue unveiling in London later.

    Isabella Ford, born in Leeds in 1855 into a prosperous Quaker family, was active in the struggle for women's rights before World War One.

    In 1890, she helped to form the Leeds Women’s Suffrage Society and, later, the local branch of the Independent Labour Party.

    By the early 1900s she was a national figure, publishing several books about women and socialism.

    Her name appears on a plinth underneath a statue of suffragist Millicent Fawcett (pictured), the first statue of a woman in London's Parliament Square.

    The bronze casting features Fawcett holding a banner reading "courage calls to courage everywhere".

    Former World Snooker Champion Shaun Murphy threw away a solid lead at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield last night and lost to Welshman Jamie Jones.

    Jones had been 8-5 behind, but took the match against 2005 champion Murphy 10-9.

    Jones, who plays Englishman Kyren Wilson in round two, said it was his "best victory".

    "I have never faced pressure like I have today, so I am so pleased to hold myself together and come through. It gives me loads of confidence," he said.

    Meanwhile, Barry Hawkins beat fellow Englishman Stuart Carrington 10-7 in a late-night finish.

    Families of children with special educational needs or disabilities in North Yorkshire are joining together to fight plans to change free home-to-school transport.

    Councillors are due to meet later to discuss the proposals, which could mean parents of youngsters over 16 having to pay nearly £500 a year.

    The local authority says it's consulted widely and the changes could save about £2m a year.

  17. Public inquiry into South Yorkshire fracking planpublished at 08:30 British Summer Time 24 April 2018

    A public inquiry begins today into plans to test drill for shale gas near a village close to Rotherham.

    Rotherham Council unanimously rejected the application by petrochemical firm Ineos for the site close to Harthill at a planning board in January.

    The firm wants to construct a 1.7-mile deep well on land to the east of Harthill to extract rock samples for testing.

    Protesters from Harthill Against Fracking and Friends of the Earth are due to speak at the inquiry which is expected to last for up to two weeks.

    A West Yorkshire community project which gives away bikes to people who can't afford them will get the royal seal of approval later.

    Streetbikes is a non-profit organisation based in Kirklees which hosts community rides and recycles unwanted bikes.

    So far, the scheme, which aims to bring cyclists of all abilities together, has helped almost 9,000 people get cycling.

    Members of the project are set to receive an award from the Duke of York later.

    Work's started on a £12.4m project to convert an old office block in York into temporary homeless accommodation.

    James House is going to become 57 new flats which are expected to be ready for occupation in early 2019, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS).

    Helen Douglas, from City of York Council, says with the help of government grants "a vision of upgrading and updating housing for people who are temporarily homeless is being realised".

  20. West Yorkshire MP leads road deaths debatepublished at 07:42 British Summer Time 24 April 2018

    Huddersfield Labour MP Barry Sheerman is due to lead a debate in Westminster later about road deaths - not just in this country but across the world.

    Mr Sheerman says there are now 3,500 road deaths a day across the globe and that safer countries like the UK should share best practice.

    The MP also says Britain needs to have a targets on road safety in line with the UN, which wants to halve deaths on the road by 2020.

    In the debate, he's expected to call on the government to use part of its overseas aid budget to try to reduce the million road deaths which happen every year around the world.
