    It's 10 years since South Yorkshire's bowel screening programme was launched and people are being encouraged to mark the anniversary by being screened.

    Since its launch, the programme has detected more than 1,000 cases of cancer which might otherwise have gone unnoticed.

    Jean Smith persuaded her husband Bill (both pictured) from Waterthorpe to get screened and he was found to have cancer.

    Jean said: “Within two months Bill had been diagnosed, treated and is on the road back to his previous good health.

    "We know that many people have helped us and there is no doubt in our minds that between them they have helped to save Bills life, and for this we would like to offer our thanks and gratitude.

    "Not all angels have wings!”

    The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Bowel Cancer Screening Programme is hosted by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

    Screening can be requested on the free phone number on 0800 707 60.

    The Overtones have cancelled their concert at Scarborough Spa later this year following the death of lead singer Timmy Matley.

    The vocal harmony group have cancelled their summer tour, including a date in the North Yorkshire seaside town, after his sudden died earlier this month.

    In a statement, The Overtones said they needed "some time to process the loss of our friend, brother and band mate".

    Scarborough Spa said customers would be contacted this week over refunds for the show, which was due to take place on Saturday 14 July.

    Ex-Castleford Tigers full-back Zak Hardaker has been banned for 14 months after testing positive for cocaine before last season's Super League Grand Final.

    After a one-day hearing, he was charged with committing an anti-doping violation before the defeat by Leeds Rhinos.

    The England international, who has also played for Leeds Rhinos and Featherstone Rovers, had his contract with Castleford terminated in February

    The funeral of a young father who was stabbed to death in Sheffield has taken place.

    Jarvin Blake, 22, died in hospital last month after being stabbed in a targeted attack.

    Family and friends gathered at the City Road Cemetery in Sheffield for the service.

    Four men have been arrested as part of a murder inquiry.

    All have been released on bail.

    Emergency crews have been called to a building site in Sheffield after reports that a brick fell on a workman's head.

    The incident was reported at about 10:30 this morning at a site at the junction of Portobello Street and Rockingham Street.

    The man's been taken to hospital, but there are no details on his condition at the moment.

    A training session is being offered in North Yorkshire to teach people what to do in the event of a terrorist attack.

    The special lunchtime course in Northallerton will include first aid training which could save lives in the event of an attack, such as last year's Manchester Arena bombing.

    Hambleton District Council has organised the event called "Run, Hide, Tell: Surviving a terrorist attack?" which will take place on Thursday.

    Course organiser and former police officer Sue Cross says: "Having that ability, the knowledge, the confidence, to give that immediate first aid, we saw a lot of that in Manchester where there were people caught up in the tragic terror attacks there - ordinary people doing astounding and outstanding things."

    Last week, we brought you news that South Yorkshire's mounted section would be making an appearance on our streets.

    It's two years since the force's mounted section switched to shared premises in Wakefield under a cost saving plan with the West Yorkshire Police.

    But the force's horses and their riders have now been brought back to Ring Farm at Cudworth in Barnsley.

    As we told you earlier, there's been a serious crash on the A65 near Skipton this morning, one person has been airlifted to hospital.

    There have been "multiple casualties" reported and the person who was taken to hospital isn't thought to have life threatening injuries.

    It happened by the Chelker Reservoir at about 09:00 and North Yorkshire Police say four cars were involved.

    One of the cars is said to have ended up on its roof, emergency services are reportedly still at the scene.

    A police officer who attended the scene tweeted "a stark reminder to drive within your limits & not to take risks."

    There are warnings of severe disruption on York's roads today as six weeks of work begin to replace ageing and unreliable traffic lights on a key route into the city.

    The council is advising drivers to allow more time for their journey or use the park and ride service as work begins at the junction near Knavesmire.

    Bus routes will remain unchanged as work is carried out on the lights at St Helen's Road and Tadcaster Road.

    Temporary lights will be in place and the work will be suspended for a few days next month due to meetings at York Racecourse.

    An exceptionally rare Rolex watch, bought for just £69.00 in 1966 in Doncaster could fetch as much as £120,000 when it goes for auction.

    This is the Rolex Submariner 5513, bought from a jewellery shop in Doncaster, one of only a small number manufactured in the early 1960s with an Explorer 3-6-9 dial - a dial showing all three numbers.

    Most of the watches didn't have any numbers on their dials.

    Thirsk's Yarnbombers have gone into a "woolspin" ahead of the 2018 Tour de Yorkshire, decking out the market town with knitted cyclists.

    Members of the knitting group have stuck cycling-themed designs on bollards, buildings and railings around the North Yorkshire town's historic market place.

    This year's Tour de Yorkshire begins on Thursday and will pass through Thirsk on Saturday on the way to Scarborough.

    The news that Sainsbury's has confirmed plans to merge with Leeds-based Asda has left many wondering what lies in store for Asda's head office situated just outside the city centre.

    Sainsbury's boss Mike Coupe denies there will be job losses at the firm's head offices.

    "We stand by what we said. There will be no store closures and if we are successful we will employ more, not less, people. Both businesses will be run as they are today," he says.

    That means that Asda's head office will continue to be run from Leeds and Sainsbury's from its Holborn head office in central London, according to Mr Coupe.
