South Yorkshire's bowel screening programme turns 10published at 14:21 British Summer Time 30 April 2018
It's 10 years since South Yorkshire's bowel screening programme was launched and people are being encouraged to mark the anniversary by being screened.
Since its launch, the programme has detected more than 1,000 cases of cancer which might otherwise have gone unnoticed.
Jean Smith persuaded her husband Bill (both pictured) from Waterthorpe to get screened and he was found to have cancer.
Jean said: “Within two months Bill had been diagnosed, treated and is on the road back to his previous good health.
"We know that many people have helped us and there is no doubt in our minds that between them they have helped to save Bills life, and for this we would like to offer our thanks and gratitude.
"Not all angels have wings!”
The South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw Bowel Cancer Screening Programme is hosted by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
Screening can be requested on the free phone number on 0800 707 60.
