    Police are appealing for help to find 12-year-old Brodie Burgin and 13-year-old Emily Bamford.

    The pair were first reported as missing earlier this week.

    Brodie (pictured left) was last seen at about 12:00 on Monday on Waltheof Road, Sheffield, and is described as about 5ft 5ins tall with long brown hair.

    Police say Emily (pictured right) was last seen at about 22:00 on Monday on Normancroft Way, Sheffield, and is described as about 5ft 5ins tall with long dark brown hair.

    The girls are thought to be together, say police.

    Today sees another day of strike action on Northern trains by members of the RMT union, with some disruption to services expected for passengers.

    Meanwhile, there are also major problems on the route between Sheffield and Huddersfield after a road vehicle blocked the line at Denby Dale.

    Trains are currently suspended until midday, with a bus replacement service running between Denby Dale, Huddersfield and Barnsley.

    And at Wakefield Westgate the lifts are currently out of order between Platform 2 (towards Leeds) and the bridge to the booking hall and Platform 1 until further notice.

  6. Woman rescued from River Aire in Leedspublished at 07:37 British Summer Time 9 May 2018

    This was the scene on Crown Point Bridge in Leeds a short time ago as a woman was rescued from the River Aire:

    Emergency crews were called to the river at about 06:50 this morning after the woman was seen to have entered the water.

    Police, fire and ambulance teams used specialist equipment to rescue her from the water and she's now been left in the care of paramedics.

  7. Funeral of drowned Leeds toddler to be heldpublished at 07:24 British Summer Time 9 May 2018

    The funeral's due to take place later of a toddler who drowned in a swimming pool in Leeds last month.

    Three-year-old Rocco Wright had gone to a swimming lesson at the David Lloyd Fitness Club in Moortown with his father and sister when the incident happened.

    Last week's inquest into his death heard that Rocco wandered off while his father spoke to an instructor at the fitness club on 21 April.

    Moments later, Rocco was seen floating in the deep end of the pool.

    A pathologist said further tests were needed to establish cause of death.

    Rocco's been described as the "happiest boy you could ever meet" and family tributes said he "truly loved life".

    The councillor responsible for Sheffield's tree replacement programme has stood down from the role.

    Councillor Bryan Lodge, who had been Cabinet Member for Environment and Streetscene for two years, will remain as a councillor.

    In a Facebook post, Mr Lodge said: "It's been an interesting/challenging two years. I'm proud to have worked with such a dedicated, hardworking and professional team of people.

    "Never let the truth get lost in the aggressive, nasty and personal abuse directed at us," he added.

    The tree felling is part of Sheffield City Council's £2bn Streets Ahead project, aimed at improving roads and footpaths in the city. About 5,500 trees have been cut down since 2012.

    The council, which is planting new trees after removing existing ones, insists the trees earmarked for felling are either "dangerous, dead, diseased, dying, damaging or discriminatory".

    However, many of the trees classed by the council as "damaging" or "discriminatory" are healthy specimens which campaigners say should be saved. Instead, they say amendments should be made to surrounding pavements and roads.

    Firefighters have spent the night tackling a blaze at a commercial garage in Doncaster.

    About six crews, that's 30 firefighters, spent the night dealing with the fire.

    The cause of the blaze isn't known and a full investigation's been launched, the fire service says.

    Rail passengers across Yorkshire face another day of strike action.

    Services run by Northern could be disrupted as members of the RMT union walk out again in their ongoing dispute over driver-only operated trains.

    But the rail companies have insisted the move is safe and already widely used.

  11. Councils defend Tour de Yorkshire spendingpublished at 06:30 British Summer Time 9 May 2018

    Cash-strapped councils across Yorkshire are being urged to justify why they are spending millions of pounds of taxpayers money on the Tour de Yorkshire, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    It is understood the towns and cities hosting start and finish lines for the four-day race which took place last weekend spent up to £250,000, while North Yorkshire County Council has spent £180,000 on the race for the last two years.

    Councillor Eric Broadbent, leader of North Yorkshire County Council's Labour group, said while it was clear a large proportion of the county's investment had been used to bring the race route to a "pristine standard", other roads had been left "looking like a meteor had hit them".

    Council leaders say they have a duty to the businesses to promote Yorkshire as a popular place for people to visit.

    Hambleton District Council's leader, Councillor Mark Robson, said the authority's £25,000 outlay on items such as safety barriers had brought clear dividends to the local economy, with lengthy queues outside a wide variety of shops.

    Developers have submitted their plans for a major housing development on former chocolate factory land in York, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    North Yorkshire-based developers Newby revealed plans for the Cocoa West site at a public consultation event in April.

    Now the company has submitted a planning application for the land between Haxby Road and Wigginton Road - although with fewer new homes than previously thought.

    According to Newby, external, their plans now include 425 new homes and apartments.

    The company said it has worked closely with Nestle, the city council and residents and the plans include open space, community facilities, parking and small-scale commercial uses.

    Kirklees Council says it is "disappointing" bin collectors in the area have voted in favour of a strike over a row about leave and claims of bullying.

    Unison says Kirklees Council's 70 waste staff are owed a total of 23 years' leave and claim bullying by managers.

    A senior council official said services would continue as usual until it receives a formal notification of strike action.

    The Information Commissioner's Office, external is investigating a cyber attack on data belonging to members of Sheffield's Credit Union.

    Bank account details, home addresses and National Insurance numbers were included in some of the data copied in the cyber attack last February.

    The credit union, which offers saving and loan services, stressed that members' money remains safe.

    A block of flats in Scarborough has been evacuated after a car crashed into it.

    The driver of the car has been taken to hospital with minor injuries but no-one in the building, on Ramshill Road, has been injured.

    Police said the road has been closed for safety reasons and have asked people to avoid the area.

    Police have released CCTV image of a man they want to question in connection with a burglary in Chapteltown, Sheffield.

    A TV and handbag were stolen from a house on Cambers View at about 04:30 on Tuesday 1 May and a silver BMW was also taken from the property.

    Officers say the man pictured above "may have information" about the incident.

    A 25-year-old man was the 250,000th visitor to arrive, just as a male peregrine swooped down a cliff ledge.

    The Malham Peregrine Project, external is a viewpoint designed to give people a chance to get closer to the birds.
