The grit lorries are ready to spread crushed rock dust if the roads start to melt, with the dust being used to create a non-stick surface in a bid to limit damage to the road surface.

It seems that North Yorkshire's now getting in on the act, with the county's gritter set to come out of hibernation:

  18. Arrest threat for tearaway teens in Pontefractpublished at 11:01 British Summer Time 28 June 2018

Police have warned teenagers they face getting a criminal record after a "spike" in antisocial behaviour in Pontefract,

    Police officers

Officers used a dispersal order in the Chequerfields area of the town last weekend after a number of complaints were made about young people causing trouble.

Eleven "directions to leave" orders were also given to teenagers and any who were under 16 were taken home and spoken to in front of their parents.

Dispersal powers allow officers to disperse groups of two people or more if they believe their presence or behaviour has resulted, or is likely to result, in anyone being harassed, intimidated, alarmed or distressed.

Insp Paul Sullivan said: "Dispersal orders are not taken out lightly, but in this situation we felt it was necessary to send a message to those involved.
