    Pictures have been released by police in a bid to catch a man who stole a mountain bike from outside a house in Barnsley earlier this year.

    The theft happened on Friday 2 March at the house on Mount Vernon Road in Worsbrough, where someone had also tried to break into the garage.

    South Yorkshire Police are appealing for help in identifying the man in the CCTV pictures.

    Some regions, including Yorkshire and Lincolnshire, are being short-changed on rail spending compared to London, according to an influential group of MPs.

    The Transport Select Committee found Yorkshire gets seven times less to spend on the railways than the capital.

    Lillian Greenwood, chair of the Transport Select Committee, says their report shows the area has been missing out on investment.

    The Department for Transport says there will be more spending in the north of England than in the south over the next few years.

    It adds that by 2020 all northern and trans-Pennine trains will be new or refurbished.

    North Yorkshire County Council says it's trying to get the A59 between Harrogate and Skipton reopened as "quickly as possible".

    The road, which has been prone to landslips, has been closed for almost a month due to land movement at Kex Gill and has led to some businesses claiming their trade is being badly affected.

    The current plan is for it to be partly reopened to single-file traffic in time for the Great Yorkshire Show which starts on 10 July.

  5. Sheffield stabbing: Eyewitnesses 'thought it was a prank'published at 09:24 British Summer Time 28 June 2018

    A Sheffield shopkeeper who saw a 22-year-old stab victim stagger into her shop asking for help says at first she thought it was a prank.

    Iqbal (pictured), who owns the Premier convenience store on Teynham Road in Shirecliffe, says the man ran into her shop asking for bandages after being stabbed.

    "First I thought it was a prank because he had blood all over on his hands.

    "When he showed me the wounds I said, 'No, you don't need bandages you need to call an ambulance'."

    Another eyewitness said the man, who was stabbed on Herries Road, was holding his chest with blood on his shirt.

    The man was taken to hospital with injuries which are not thought to be life-threatening.

    Firefighters in West Yorkshire spent part of the night dealing with an oil tank which caught fire in Halifax.

    It happened in the early hours at a metal industrial processing plant on Hope Street in the centre of the town.

    Six crews from across West Yorkshire were involved in putting out the blaze which also affected a nearby warehouse.

    One man has been taken to hospital suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke.

    Business owners say their trade has been severely hit by the closure of the A59 near Harrogate.

    The stretch of road at Kex Gill has been shut for the past four weeks because of ground movement - the third time in the last four years the road has had to be closed.

    Engineers hope they'll have it re-opened to single-file traffic before next month's Great Yorkshire Show.

    North Yorkshire County Council has long-term plans to re-route the road at a cost of up to £40m.

    A man is being treated in hospital after being stabbed in Sheffield.

    The 22-year-old was stabbed on Herries Road in Shirecliffe at about 20:45 on Wednesday evening, police say.

    His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

    Three people have been rescued from a house fire in North Yorkshire.

    The blaze broke out just before 03:30 this morning at a property on East Road in Norton.

    All three people have been taken to hospital suffering from the effects of breathing in smoke.

    Fire crews from Malton, Scarborough, Pickering and Kirkbymoorside were all involved in putting it out.

    An e-fit image has been released by detectives investigating the robbery of a teenager in broad daylight in Bradford.

    It took place on Paley Road in East Bowling, at the junction with Hall Lane, between 15:20 and 15:40 on Wednesday 13 June when two men approached an 18-year-old male and stole his mobile phone and watch.

    The first suspect is described as a mixed race Asian male, about 18-years-old, 6ft tall, of skinny build, with short dark brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a red, white and blue hooded top.

    The second suspect is described as possibly being of mixed race, about 18-years-old, 6ft tall, of skinny build, with brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing dark clothing.

    Det Con Carrie Moore said: "We're hoping there will have been someone in the area who will have seen males matching the suspects' descriptions or recognise the male pictured in the e-fit image."

    Soldiers from North Yorkshire have been called in to help tackle the multiple fires on Saddleworth Moor on West Yorkshire's border with Greater Manchester.

    About 100 troops from Catterick have joined the firefighting efforts, with flames now spanning four miles across the moorland.

    If you're planning to travel on the M62 this morning, be aware that it's closed eastbound between Junction 36 A614 (Goole) and Junction 37 A614 (Howden).

    The road has been shut since just after 00:00 following a serious accident where a vehicle left the carriageway.

    Investigations by the police are ongoing and the road is likely to remain closed through the morning, according to Highways England.

    A man whose body was found at a house in Sheffield earlier this week sparking a murder investigation has been named as 59-year-old Glenn Boardman.

    Emergency crews were called to a house on Steven Close, Chapeltown, at about 12:30 on Tuesday morning and Mr Boardman was pronounced dead at the scene.

    A post-mortem examination has concluded he died as a result of stab wounds.

    A 50-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in custody, say police.

    Det Ch Insp Steve Handley says: "I'd urge anyone who may have seen any suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident to please report it.

    "This incident occurred at a property on a cul-de-sac and anyone who may have seen anything, even if they believe it to be irrelevant, is asked to contact police."

  19. Britain's 'most delicious' 10k comes to North Yorkshirepublished at 06:30

    A special 10k race where competitors will be able to gorge themselves on award-winning food and drink is coming to North Yorkshire.

    The organisers of the Marathon du Malton, which is inspired by a famous event in France, say "delicious treats will be lined up along the route".

    Runners and walkers are encouraged to wear food-themed fancy dress and "to take their time and enjoy the party atmosphere", stopping for food and drink along the route.

    Malton is home to a number of award-winning food and drink producers as well as a popular food festival.

    The 10k, which will take place Sunday 26 August, is based on the Marathon du Medoc in France's wine region.
