It's the end of June and we're basking in a heatwave here in Yorkshire, but one business in South Yorkshire is planning for Christmas.

Two people stand side-by-side of a Christmas tree

The Sheffield Christmas Tree company, near Stannington, has 22,000 Christmas trees on its site and staff there are already well getting ready to shift thousands of trees in December.

This December's trees were planted about 10 years ago, but they've only just got to a sellable size.

Travis Hallam, who works on the farm, started growing trees as a way of making a bit more money alongside the farming side of the business.

"We planted a few trees 10 years ago and got a little bit carried away. We have 22,000 now," says Travis.

"My wife Lynn is chief-pruner and shaper and she does a great job all year round."

  10. Large crack in Scarborough cliff 'due to collapsed wall'published at 08:08 British Summer Time 27 June 2018

A large crack in Scarborough's cliff path, which caused the closure of several beach chalets earlier this year, is believed to have been caused by a collapsed wall, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

The South Bay chalets have been closed to the public since March and are now leaning at a 45-degree angle after large cracks appeared in the path.

A report to Scarborough Borough Council confirms the cliff-top crack is believed to have been caused by the failure of a retaining wall.

The report says the possibility of a landslip was ruled out after a rock was found close to the wall.

It remains unclear what caused the wall to fail.

The council is now looking for a contractor to reinstate the wall at South Bay to protect the Clock Cafe, which sits above the chalets.

Last week, Scarborough Council was forced to release a statement denying rumours the popular cafe would be demolished.

It's all part of the Great Place: Lakes and Dales initiative, which is about persuading young people to live in the countryside rather than in the big cities.

The designer says he hopes people will either stay in the Dales or, if they have already moved away, think about returning there.

Areas like the Dales have 44% fewer 16 to 34-year-olds than the national average and "if you lose them young, then places die", he said.

"We don't want that happening to beautiful places like this", he added.
