    I've been in Harehills, Leeds, this afternoon as police investigate after shots were fired at a property late last night.

    Officers say they are investigating a link between the shots being fired on Ashton Avenue and a reported street brawl a short while earlier:

  2. Hot rails slow trains downpublished at 15:00 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    It looks like the hot weather is causing slight issues on the trains this afternoon.

    On hot days, steel rails exposed to direct sunshine can become 20C hotter than the air temperature, according to Network Rail, external.

    This means the rails could buckle if trains go over them quickly, which is why speed restrictions have been put in place:

  3. Lifeguards rescue trio of body boarders in North Yorkshirepublished at 14:44 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    Lifeguards rescued three body boarders, including an 11-year-old boy, caught in a rip current on the Yorkshire coast.

    The boy was in the water near Scarborough, with two women, when they got into difficulty at about lunchtime on Sunday.

    The trio, who were 200 metres from the shore at Cayton Bay, were rescued by two RNLI personnel using paddle boards.

    No-one was seriously injured.

    Police are asking for help in finding a missing 25-year-old from Doncaster.

    Georgina Davies was last seen on the evening of Saturday 9 June in the Wellington Road area of Lindholme, Doncaster.

    She was reported missing on Tuesday 19 June.

    Police say Georgina has been missing before but its out of character for her not to make contact with anyone for so long.

  5. Medic's son hides toy heroes in pocket to keep him 'safe'published at 14:10 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    A Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) worker has told how his son put a pair of toy superheroes in the pocket of his uniform to keep him "safe" during his shift.

    Andrew Newson, a YAS emergency medical technician, says his four-year-old son hides little models of Superman and The Flash.

    He posted a picture on Twitter of the figurines which he found while emptying his pockets before putting his uniform in the wash:

  6. New review ordered into Sheffield Church of England abusepublished at 13:54 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    The Church of England in Sheffield has been told it must carry out another review on abuse by clergy, because the first investigation wasn't good enough.

    On Friday, the church released an independent report into its review, external of allegations of historical sexual abuse after pressure from campaigners.

    The Past Cases Review (PCR), published in 2010, was criticised for not giving a comprehensive picture of the problem.

    There have been claims that those conducting the review refused to speak to some survivors who wanted to tell their stories.

    Now, seven dioceses across the country, including Sheffield, have been told by Sir Roger Singleton, who examined the Church's "flawed" PCR, to carry out another review

    I'm on Ashton Avenue in Harehills, Leeds, this afternoon where a police cordon remains in place after a shotgun was fired late last night.

    Witnesses say they saw two men approach the property, firing a weapon before running away.

    Armed officers were called at about 23:40 and found what they describe as damage consistent with a shotgun being fired.

    Police say there was no-one in the address and no-one was injured.

    Officers are now investigating whether the shot was linked to a street fight.

    Commemorative silver coins from the Queen's coronation in 1953 have been stolen during a burglary in Scarborough.

    Similar items from the queen's silver jubilee in 1977, as well as jewellery and watches, were also taken from a house on Ryndle Walk earlier this month.

    Thieves struck sometime between the morning of Saturday 16 June and the afternoon of Sunday 17 June, officers say.

    Anyone with any information about the burglary is being asked to get in touch with police.

  11. Ram-raider knocked down by own car in Leedspublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    One of a group of men who ram-raided a clothing shop in Leeds was knocked over by his own getaway car.

    Police were called at about 22:50 last night following the raid on Flannels in Vicar Lane.

    A stolen silver Ford Transit van had been reversed into one of the shop's front windows.

    Five men wearing balaclavas then loaded clothing into a black Audi estate and drove off leaving the van at the scene.

    The car headed up Vicar Lane and turned right onto Eastgate, where the boot opened and items of clothing fell out on to the road.

    One of the suspects got out to pick them up, but was then hit by the car as it reversed to pick up the haul.

    A short time later, police received reports of vehicles acting suspiciously outside the Yorkshire Rider Social Club, in Railway Street, where items appeared to be being loaded into other vehicles.

    A false number plate from the Audi was found at the scene.

    Some viewers and listeners could experience short-term interference to television and radio services due to the zone of high pressure.

    Freeview viewers may experience short-term picture break-up.

    If you listen to FM and AM radio, you may hear other programmes on top of each other and DAB radio listeners could experience a temporary loss of reception.

    Reception problems will disappear once the weather changes.

    About 1,500 homes in Tadcaster are without electricity this afternoon after a power cut.

    Detectives are investigating whether a street fight may have led to a shotgun being fired at a house in Leeds.

    Police said armed officers were called at 23:42 to an address in Ashton Avenue in Harehills.

    They found damage to the outside of the property which was consistent with a shotgun being fired at it.

    There was no-one in the address and no-one was injured, officer said.

    Witnesses saw two males approach the property and fire the weapon.

    They then ran off along Ashton Avenue and then turned onto Harehills Road.

    Investigators are looking if the incident was linked to reports of a fight in nearby Ashton Street just after 23:00.

    A road by the entrance to a Barnsley school is being partially closed today to highlight air pollution concerns.

    The street to West Meadows Primary School, in Hoyland, was shut for an hour at the start of school today and will be shut again at the end of the school day.

    It's hoped the closure of West Street will encourage pupils and their parents to make their journey by more environmentally friendly means.

    There's "significant interest" in a new organisation taking over the running of popular motorcycle races in Scarborough, according to the local council.

    Scarborough Borough Council says it's committed to ensuring racing at Oliver's Mount continues, as well as maintaining the international reputation of the circuit.

    The council, which owns Oliver's Mount, has terminated the lease with the club running race events there and is now in talks with other organisations to secure the future of the circuit.

    There's been racing at Oliver's Mount since 1946, with Barry Sheene, Carl Fogarty and Giacomo Agostini all competing at the course over the years.

    Recently, though, events have been cancelled, including the Cock O'The North meeting last week, leaving riders and spectators wondering what's going on.

    Police are appealing for witnesses after two boys were seriously injured in a crash earlier this month.

    A blue Peugeot 206, driven by a 17-year-old boy, was being driven on the Dearne Valley Parkway, near Wath Road traffic island, when it collided with a minibus at about 18:10 on Saturday 16 June.

    The driver of the car and a 16-year-old passenger were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

    The minibus driver, a 60-year-old man, and three passengers all sustained minor injuries.
