    It's fifty years since Yorkshire singer-songwriter Jake Thackray created a bespoke song for BBC Radio Leeds.

    So we got John Watterson, also known as Fake Thackray, to create a song to celebrate our 50th birthday.

    A campaign group has been set up to help save Sheffield's last surviving Victorian spa baths.

    Conservationists have been worried the city council could be about to sell Birley Spa bath house (pictured) in Hackenthorpe.

    Now the Friends of Birley Spa has been formed to fight for the future of the baths, 16 years after the building was restored in a £500,000 project.

    Membes say the building has been used for weddings and shouldn't now be taken away from the public.

  5. Call for '600mph hyperloop' transport for Leedspublished at 17:27 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    A former council leader has called for the futuristic "hyperloop" public transport technology to come to Leeds.

    Councillor Keith Wakefield, of Leeds City Council, said he hoped it could be installed in Leeds in the next 20 years.

    Transport Secretary Chris Grayling suggested that hyperloop could ferry people from Leeds city centre to Leeds Bradford Airport earlier this year.

    Hyperloop, first floated by tech billionaire Elon Musk, could see passengers travel at up to 600mph.

    The national governing body for motorcycle sport says racing could "absolutely" be held again at Oliver's Mount in Scarborough.

    The Auto Cycle Union say the cancelled Cock O'The North meeting could have happened last weekend if the right safety measures had been put in place.

    Scarborough Borough Council terminated a licence agreement with the club who puts on events there over safety concerns, after 12 people were injured in two accidents at a meeting last year.

    Gary Thompson, general secretary of the Auto Cycle Union, said: "The last thing they expected was for one or two of them to come away having life-changing injuries.

    "I speak to the leading riders, they're all regulars around Oliver's Mount, they all want to see it happen but they look to the governing body to make it as safe as possible.

    "My paramount concern is safety for the riders and of course safety for the spectators."

  8. Church of England appeals for abuse victims to come forwardpublished at 17:05 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    The Church of England in Sheffield has put out an appeal for victims of abuse to come forward after it was told to carry out another review on alleged abuse by clergy.

    On Friday, the church released an independent report into its review, external of allegations of historical sexual abuse after pressure from campaigners.

    The Past Cases Review (PCR), published in 2010,was criticised for not giving a comprehensive picture of the problem.

    There have been claims that those conducting the review refused to speak to some survivors who wanted to tell their stories.

    Now, seven dioceses across the country, including Sheffield, have been told by Sir Roger Singleton, who examined the Church's "flawed" PCR, to carry out another review

    The Diocese of Sheffield said the Bishop of Sheffield, the Rt Revd Pete Wilcox had made safeguarding one of his "main priorities" since being installed in 2017.

  9. Appeal for phone footage of Leeds ram-raidpublished at 16:52 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    Police are asking the public for any phone footage they filmed of a gang which ram-raided a Leeds clothes shop.

    Officers were called to Flannels, in Vicar Lane, at about 22:50 last night, where a silver van had been repeatedly reversed into a front window.

    A group of five suspects wearing balaclavas then loaded clothing from the store into a black Audi estate and drove off leaving the van at the scene.

    Police said footage taken by people in the area at the time could be helpful in identifying the suspects.

    A girls' football team from North Yorkshire has won a national schools cup held at the England squad's training ground.

    The 11 and 12-year-olds from St John Fisher High School in Harrogate triumphed at St George's Park (pictured) in Tatenhill, Burton-upon-Trent.

    They lifted the Year 7 national schools cup after beating a team from Somerset in the final.

  11. Man held in Sheffield murder investigationpublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a body was found at a house in Sheffield.

    The male victim was found in Steven Close, Chapeltown, just after midnight.

    A man in his 50s is being held in custody ahead of questioning, South Yorkshire Police said.

    A cordon remains in place around the property.

  13. Racing 'massive' for Scarborough says biking starpublished at 16:10 British Summer Time 26 June 2018

    Yorkshire motorbike star Dean Harrison says racing in Scarborough is "massive" for the local economy and should continue.

    Harrison, who holds the lap record at Oliver's Mount, remembers "50,000 spectators" watching him racing around the course, England's only motorcycle road circuit.

    The motorcyclist, from Bradford, says a "personal friend" has inquired about taking over the running of the track after Scarborough Borough Council terminated the lease with the club which puts on events there.

    There are fears for the future of the track after several popular races were cancelled over safety concerns after two accidents at a meeting last year left 12 people injured.

    Harrison said: "Safety improvements do need to be put in place, the accidents that happened last year need to be looked at so this doesn't happen again.

    "If a rider gets injured that's there job, you can almost accept it because they know, when they get on their bike, the risks of riding.

    "The last thing I want to see is someone who's come for a family day out, to watch and enjoy the motorsport, to be injured."

    A banned drug, which is used as a cannabis substitute, has been seized by police in Sheffield.

    South Yorkshire Police say they seized around 10 grams of the psychoactive drug from a group on York Street in the city centre.

    They say it was enough to have been dealt to 10 other people.

    New Earswick Primary School said it didn't want to create "unnecessary discomfort for the children or the spectators."

    The sports day, for children in Years 3 to 6, has been rescheduled.

    Mike and the team were 150 miles from Kaliningrad, where England play their last World Cup group game on Thursday, when he came off his bike.

    The charity ride takes in 1,700 miles - it began in England and is due to finish in Kaliningrad - and has raised almost £60,000., external

    He's now been flown back to the Leeds General Infirmary.

    The rest of the group, including Premier League referee Martin Atkinson, are carrying on though.
