    The demolition of a landmark seafront theatre in Scarborough is well under way, as you can see from this latest video from the scene:

    The Futurist opened in 1921 and hosted an array of famous artists, including The Beatles, before closing in 2014.

    Scarborough council planners decided last year to demolish the building at a cost of more than £4.2m following a long fight by campaigners to save it.

    The site is earmarked to become the home of a new attraction run by the owners of the Flamingo Land theme park in Malton.

    The demolition process is expected to last until December.

    A Labour party spokesman has said that a panel has ruled a formal warning should be given to Mr O'Mara and he must attend training.

    The Sheffield Hallam MP apologised for online remarks from 2002 and 2004 but denied the more recent claims.

    Bin strikes in part of West Yorkshire will continue after union members voted against a new offer from the council.

    The dispute centres on union claims of bullying and workers being refused leave to help dying relatives or sick children.

    Members of Unison in Kirklees voted unanimously to reject the new council offer, with organisers saying the offer is "nowhere near satisfactory".

    A series of planned strikes by bin collectors is now expected to continue until Tuesday next week.

    If you travel on the M621 near Leeds, it would have been hard to miss the speed restrictions which have been in place for a long time now while work is carried out there:

    However, the 30mph restriction has now been lifted on the clockwise carriageway towards the M1, Highways England has confirmed.

    The anti-clockwise restrictions towards the M62 are still in place.

  8. Schoolchildren in Doncaster thank 'fearless firefighters'published at 14:11 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    Doncaster school pupils have been busy writing letters to firefighters, thanking them for the work they do:

    The Year Six pupils, from Holy Family Catholic Primary School, sent the letters last week.

    In one letter (pictured), a pupil says: "When others are running away, you are running towards it. You are brave and fearless."

    South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue says its crews love receiving notes like this and has thanked the young letter writers for sending them.

    A clay sculpture paying tribute to author Barry Hines, which will eventually be cast in bronze, has being unveiled today in Barnsley.

    The sculpture is of Billy Casper, the lead character in the film Kes, who is depicted with his kestrel.

    The 1969 movie was filmed in Barnsley and based on the book A Kestrel for a Knave, which was written by Barry Hines who grew up near the town.

    Designed by Graham Ibbeson, the £53,000 cost of the statue is being crowdfunded.

    A Yorkshire council is to review its toilet policy after a group of schoolchildren were stopped from using council facilities, as they didn't have any money, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    The seaside council's been introducing pay on entry systems across the borough, which meant a school party visiting Scarborough's North Bay found themselves caught short.

    Labour councillor Neil Price said: "Recently, two teachers and 44 pupils from Barrowcliff Primary School went on an educational visit to the North Bay.

    "Some children needed the toilet and the staff found it was 40p per child, with no change given, to use the toilets.

    "One teacher estimated it would have cost them £17.60 if all the children wanted to go."

    Mr Price says the group were told to ring the council for help and the answer they got was "no".

    Tourism Portfolio holder, Councillor Andrew Jenkinson, responded: "With any new system, there will be teething problems and this will be reviewed as I am not happy with this."

  13. Murder investigation after woman's body found in Yorkpublished at 12:59 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    This is the scene on a street in York this lunchtime as police continue investigations into the murder of a 25-year-old woman:

    The victim was discovered at an address on Fourth Avenue, in Tang Hall, at about 13:00 on Monday after concerns were raised for her welfare.

    She was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

    Detectives say they're not yet in a position to release the woman's identity.

    A 35-year-old local man has been arrested on suspicion of murder, police say.

    He was found by officers in his vehicle in nearby Melrosegate four hours after the woman's body was discovered.

    Officers have appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

    Police are asking for help in finding missing Sheffield man Niall McDowell.

    Niall, who is from Parson Cross, was last seen at about 13:35 on Monday and is known to go to the Arbourthorne area of Sheffield.

    He is 6ft 7ins tall, of heavy build, with blonde hair and he may be wearing a black or red top and blue jeans.

    A 17-year-old girl has been left injured after a shotgun was fired through the window of a house in Leeds.

    She was hit in the leg by flying glass while she was sitting in the living room of a house on Ashton Street, Harehills, at about 01:30 on Monday morning.

    Firearms officers at the scene said the damage was consistent with a shotgun being fired.

    They believe it was a "targeted" attack on the property but it was not directly on the teenager.

    Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

  17. Headteacher's praise for fire crews who 'saved our school'published at 11:51 British Summer Time 3 July 2018

    A North Yorkshire headteacher has thanked fire crews for saving her school after a major blaze broke out there last night.

    Fire crews were called to Sherburn High School, near Tadcaster, just before midnight and remain on scene this morning.

    The blaze caused one building at the school to collapse.

    Headteacher Maria Williams says: "We hope very much we can get back into the school and that teaching and learning can continue for our students as soon as possible.

    "It seems as if the main teaching areas have been saved, but the investigation is still ongoing.

    "I cannot thank the fire service enough for working so hard through the night to save our school."

    Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai is expected to visit a school in Dewsbury later.

    Malala, 20, was shot in the head by a gunman for campaigning for female education in Pakistan in 2012.

    She is currently finishing the first year of a degree at Oxford.

    She's expected to unveil a wall decoration and answer questions from pupils at Carlton Junior and Infant School.

    This is her first ever visit to a British primary school.
