    As the warm weather continues, Yorkshire Water says demand has increased up to an extra 200 million litres - and is asking people to use their water "wisely".

    That demand is more water than the whole of Leeds consumes in one day, the firm says, but reservoir levels are "normal" for this time of year.

    Earlier this week, Yorkshire Water said a hosepipe ban was unlikely.

    However, it is urging customers to think about their water usage.

    Two headstocks at a former Doncaster colliery would cost about £4m to restore, according to a new report.

    The structures both have listed status because it was believed they had a rare internal lattice pattern, but it's now thought that's not the case.

    More than £500,000 has also been spent on keeping people away from the closed site, according to Doncaster Council.

    Paying for sex should be criminalised in all locations to reduce demand for prostitution and sex trafficking, ministers will be urged.

    Labour's Sarah Champion, who is MP for Rotherham, is set to use a Westminster Hall debate this afternoon to press the government to tackle demand by criminalising paying for sex.

    The Rotherham MP will say paying for sex is a form of violence against women, with pop-up brothels making it "as easy as ordering a pizza to go and abuse a woman".

    Ten care homes in Sheffield will get lifting equipment so they don't have to call out an ambulance for residents who have fallen, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    A pilot scheme to prevent "inappropriate ambulance call outs" is being trialled by NHS Sheffield Clinical Commissioning Group and Yorkshire Ambulance Service.

    Staff will use specialist equipment to lift frail and elderly people in residential and nursing care homes.

    The care homes have been chosen from a frequent callers list by the ambulance service, and have agreed to take part in the project.

    A man arrested on suspicion of murder, following the death of a woman in York, has been released on conditional bail.

    Police arrested the 35-year-old after the body of a 25-year-old woman was found in a property on Fourth Avenue, in the Tang Hall area of the city at 13:00 yesterday.

    He was arrested later in the day, after police found him in his vehicle on a nearby street.

    Witnesses or anyone with information are being asked to contact police.

    North Yorkshire's health watchdog has written to the Prime Minister and the head of NHS England to raise concerns about the state of local health finances.

    At the moment, four out of five Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) covering the county are millions of pounds in deficit.

    In the last financial year, the total deficit incurred by the region's four CCGs was £46m.

    This year it's predicted to be £31m.

    Councillor Jim Clark, the chair of the council's Health Scrutiny Committee, says: "We must ask if we really need five different Clinical Commissioning Groups, with five managing directors, five finance directors and five medical directors."

    He says Leeds has merged its commissioning groups into a single one and said: "It's thoughts like that we need."

    The defender had his grandfather and brother cheering him on from their garden in South Yorkshire, complete with England shirts with their names on the back.

    Following the game, Maguire even managed to find himself a Sheffield United flag as he celebrated on the pitch in Moscow.

    A group of small breweries in Sheffield have joined together to try and improve their sales and brand recognition.

    The Sheffield Brewers Co-operative have agreed to sell each other's beers at local events, creating a strong local choice for customers, they say.

    Exit 33 Brewing, Neepsend Brew Co, Blue Bee Brewery and Sheffield Brew Co, are doing it to gain a stronger profile when competing with the bigger breweries.

    Peter Roberts, who is the head brewer and director at Exit 33 Brewing, says it's important to support local companies.

    "It's all about keeping it local and championing what we do."

    A man has been arrested after a gun was fired at a house in Doncaster.

    Police say it happened on Friday 29 June at about 22:05, when a window of a house was damaged after being shot at on Princess Avenue, Stainforth.

    A 28-year-old Doncaster man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence and has been bailed.

    Police are wanting to find a silver car that was seen driving away from the area at the time.

    The key, they say, is understanding how skin bacteria create the smell from virtually odourless armpit sweat.

    The teams at the University of York say they've now deciphered the first step in this molecular process.

    They say the discovery could pave the way for a new generation of deodorants.

  14. 'Great news': Leeds motorway 30mph speed limit raisedpublished at 08:32 British Summer Time 4 July 2018

    Highways England says it has "great news" for drivers using the clockwise carriageway of the M621, heading from Leeds towards the M1.

    The organisation announced on social media the 30mph speed limit on the road, which has been slowing traffic to a crawl, has now been increased to 50mph going into Leeds.

    But the message came with a warning:

    "Drivers are reminded the speed limit is still in place anti-clockwise and overnight closures are still in place," the agency said.

    "The speed limit will be lifted fully next week and the scheme will be complete mid-July," it added.

    Firefighters are returning to the scene of a large blaze in a derelict building in North Yorkshire this morning.

    At least six fire engines were used to tackle the fire in Starbeck, near Harrogate, during yesterday evening's rush hour.

    The building was previously used as a McColl’s food store, but had been disused for some time.

    The main road between Harrogate and Knaresborough was closed, whilst crews from North and West Yorkshire spent several hours bringing the fire under control.

    Firefighters were called back to the building late in the evening after further reports of smoke were received.

    The fire service will return to the site several times today.

  16. Archbishop 'kept calm and carried on' for England victorypublished at 08:00 British Summer Time 4 July 2018

    It looks like divine intervention may have played a part in England's victory against Colombia in the World Cup last night.

    The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, took to social media during the match with a series of tweets.

    In one he wrote: "I beseech you with all my heart - please regain your composure and keep your cool!"

    The game clearly took its toll on the Archbishop with him needing to compose himself in his chapel at its end.

  19. HS2: Rolling stock depot to be located in Leedspublished at 07:28 British Summer Time 4 July 2018

    High-speed trains will be maintained at a depot to be built in Leeds, creating up to 125 jobs, it has been confirmed.

    The HS2 rolling stock depot will be built at Gateway 45 near the M1 rather than in the village of Crofton, Wakefield, as previously proposed.

    Confirming the plan, Transport Secretary Chris Grayling said the depot would be a hub for training future engineers.

    He said it meant Leeds would see "immediate benefits" when HS2 arrived.

    Leeds City Council, the University of Leeds, the West Yorkshire Combined Authority and Leeds City Enterprise Partnership have all welcomed news of the decision.
