    The RMT trade union has announced is will suspend its planned strike, in order to allow time for talks to continue with Northern rail.

    The trade union and train operator Arriva Rail North have been in dispute over plans to change the role of train guards.

    Staff had been due to walk out on Saturday 21 July.

    Both sides are considering whether a second safety critical person should be on board all Northern trains.

    CCTV images have been released after a delivery driver was punched in the face and had his van stolen last month.

    It happened in the Woodsetts area of Rotherham, where a delivery driver was delivering a parcel on Dinnington Road when a man punched him to the floor.

    The suspect is then thought to have stolen the keys and driven the van away.

    It was later found abandoned in the North Anston area of Rotherham.

    It happened at about 10:40 on Friday 8 June.

    The 42-year-old victim was not seriously injured in the attack.

    Some historic routes over the Yorkshire Wolds are going to be blocked off this winter to stop 4 X 4 enthusiasts driving on them.

    Despite the green lanes being closed during the winter some people are ignoring the ban.

    Barriers are now being put up, and the police have promised to take a hard line on those caught offending.

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a car flipped on to its roof and the driver and passenger fled the scene.

    A black BMW was travelling along Maltravers Road near Park Hill, when it crashed with a bollard and landed on its roof.

    The occupants then left the scene, police said.

    The car also hit a gold Hyundai Santa Fe in the crash at about 20:20 on Saturday.

    The passenger of the Hyundai suffered a minor head injury.

    The heatwave is having an impact in the Yorkshire Dales, where the River Bain in Bainbridge, near Leyburn, has dried up.

    At 2.45 miles (3.95km) the Bain is England's shortest river.

    Hull's legendary Bee Lady, Jean Bishop, is going to Sewerby Park at Bridlington later today, to visit a garden which has been named after her.

    Jean Bishop, 95, from Hull, collects money dressed in a giant bee costume,

    She's raised more than £115,000 in the past 25 years for Age UK.

    The Bee Lady garden has been built by trainees on the East Riding's Work-link scheme, which teaches horticultural skills to adults with learning difficulties.

    The garden has an orange and black colour scheme and lots of bee-friendly plants.

    Drivers across Yorkshire could be allowed to travel at higher speeds through motorway roadworks on quiet days like Sundays.

    Speed limits could be increased from 50mph (80km/h) to 60mph (97km/h) when there is less activity by road workers, Highways England announced.

    The M1 through South Yorkshire has most recently been hit with a speed limit, as Highways England carried out upgrades to turn the network into a smart motorway.

    Highways England will test the plan, which is aimed at reducing drivers' frustration in roadworks.

    The agency said there were nearly 300 incidents a week of drivers entering coned-off areas or subjecting road workers to physical or verbal abuse on motorways or major A roads.

    A bevy of crimson-clad Kate Bush fans came home as part of a world-wide event where people re-enact the singer's Wuthering Heights video.

    More than 150 people were 'running up that hill' at Sheffield's amphitheatre in mass homage to the British singer.

    It was part of an annual event across the world called The Most Wuthering Heights Day Ever 2018, external.

    Organiser Linda Ball said: "It was a tremendous day. There was a lot of drama and expressive moves."

    A 74-year-old woman missing in East Yorkshire has been found safe and well.

    Volunteers and police with dogs spent yesterday looking for Marian Turton after she disappeared from Burton Agnes Jazz Festival on Saturday night.

    Humberside Police say: "Police and fire search teams, mountain and lowland rescue teams, the police helicopter, dogs, and scores of volunteers scoured acres of countryside for a day until Mrs Turton was found.

    "We'd like to extend our thanks to everyone involved who went above and beyond to assist us and offered their help."

    Former East Coast Main Line rail bosses and government officials face questions from an influential group of MPs this afternoon, as they try to find out why the franchise failed.

    Rail services on the East Coast Main Line were put back into government control after Stage Coach and Virgin trains ended their contract early.

    The chief executive of the Stagecoach Group is among those being questioned by the Transport Committee, external later.

    Some Labour MPs are calling for a by-election in Sheffield Hallam, following Jared O'Mara's resignation from the party.

    Mr O'Mara was suspended in October 2017 over a series of online posts and claims he verbally abused a woman.

    He was reinstated on Tuesday, with party officials saying he should attend training and be given a formal warning.

    Mr O-Mara said he felt he'd been treated like a criminal during the suspension and resigned on Thursday, saying: "The Labour Party no longer shares my commitment to the true definition of equality and compassion."

    Labour's John Mann, MP for Bassetlaw, said: "If Jared O'Mara wants to remain as MP for Sheffield Hallam the best thing he could do is resign so he can stand as an independent.

    "A by-election in Sheffield Hallam is what we should be having."

    A 24-year-old man is due in court this morning charged with the murder of Raymond Ward, whose body was found in a disused building in Scunthorpe last week.

    Dion Levi Hendy, of no fixed abode, is due to appear before Grimsby Magistrates.

    Police are continuing to question a 47-year-old as part of their investigation.

  14. Dashcam footage appeal after fatal homemade campervan crashpublished at 07:45 British Summer Time 16 July 2018

    Police are appealing for dashcam footage after a man died following a crash in the Yorkshire Dales involving a flatbed truck converted into a homemade campervan.

    The incident, on the A65 between Clapham and Ingleton on Friday, led to a police pursuit which ended in a second crash and the closure of a railway line.

    Police say the converted truck hit a Peugeot car coming the other way.

    A passenger in the car, a 28-year-old man, died at the scene.

    Officers say a decomissioned ambulance was in convoy with the campervan and used its blue lights during its journey towards Skipton.

    It left the accident scene leading to a pursuit.

    It crashed into a level crossing near Kildwick and ended up on the tracks (pictured above).

    The driver attempted to flee but was arrested and remains in custody.

    The driver of the campervan, a 28-year-old man from Halifax, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while unfit through drink or drugs.

    Police want anyone with any dashcam footage, or who saw either the converted campervan or the decommissioned ambulance travelling along the A65 prior to the crash, to contact them.

    Investigations are continuing into a major fire in south Leeds which forced people from their homes during the early hours of Sunday morning.

    At its height 100 firefighters from across West Yorkshire were sent to Moor Road in Hunslet.

    The fire, at an industrial building, also spread to a train carriage next to Middleton Railway, forcing the cancellation of the heritage line's gala day.

    The heritage railway said it was still assessing the damage.

    An amateur rugby league player has died after becoming unwell during a Yorkshire Men's League match.

    Max Blakeley was playing for Bradford-based club Birkenshaw Bluedogs in a match at Heworth near York on Saturday afternoon.

    The 32-year-old came off the pitch at half time and become unwell before collapsing.

    The Rugby League Benevolent Fund said paramedics were called but were unable to revive him.
