Campaigners who want Peter Stringfellow to feature on a 'Walk of Fame' outside Sheffield Town Hall have launched a petition after the idea was refused by the council, according the the Local Democracy Reporting Service.
Sheffield City Council said they cannot consider the request because they can only include people who are still alive, so they can appear in person.
But friends of Mr Stringfellow who are organising the campaign say they twice approached the council over the honour before his death in June.
They also say the authority is side-stepping the issue because of Sheffield-born Mr Stringfellow's later association with lap-dancing.
