    York's indie band, Shed Seven, have been praised for performing an impromptu gig in a pub after heavy rain and high winds caused Camp Bestival to be cancelled.

    Organisers of the music festival at Lulworth Estate in Dorset announced the early closure due to bad weather on Sunday.

    The band who formed in York in 1990 and contributed to the Britpop music scene of the time, were due on stage on the final day.

    Instead they performed at the nearby Weld Arms in East Lulworth.

    Festival organiser Rob da Bank tweeted it showed Camp Bestival "solidarity".

    Shed Seven, whose hits include Chasing Rainbows and Going for Gold, had been due to perform, along with Simple Minds, on Sunday.

    As storms ended the festival prematurely, the band decamped to the pub where 100 people were treated to an acoustic performance.

    They later tweeted it was "good fun".

    Police in South Yorkshire are appealing for help in finding a man who has been missing from Sheffield for almost two weeks.

    Steven Quigley, 64, was last seen by family members on Thursday 19 July in the Millhouses area of Sheffield.

    He has not been seen or heard from since.

    Mr Quigley is about 5ft 6in tall, of heavy build, with grey hair and a beard.

    Officers say they are are growing "increasingly concerned" for his welfare, given the length of time he's now been missing without contact.

    They've released details of his car and it's registration, a grey Volkswagen Polo registration number FY53 OGF, in the hope someone will have seen it and contact them.

  4. Ilkley beauty spot 'blighted' by wastepublished at 07:01 British Summer Time 31 July 2018

    Raw sewage has been released into a river at a Yorkshire beauty spot popular with swimmers, it has emerged.

    The sewage, including solid waste and sanitary products, spilled into the River Wharfe at Ilkley from an overflow outlet at a nearby treatment plant.

    Steve Fairburn from Ilkley Anglers Association has been monitoring the situation for three years and said the sewage is released almost every time it rains.

    He said anglers have pulled items from the river such as tampons and towels on their fishing lines.

    Yorkshire Water said the amount released from its site on Ashlands Road was within the conditions permitted by the Environment Agency.

    The Environment Agency has urged anyone who sees untreated sewage in any part of the river to report it to their incident hotline.

    Hull City Council says its working with police and bailiffs to evict a group of travellers from a park in the city as quickly as possible.

    It's three weeks since the community first arrived at Pickering Park, and the number of people staying at the site increased over the weekend.

    The council says ongoing legal proceedings to remove people from the encampment are ongoing.

    A man's body has been discovered in a ditch in North Yorkshire.

    Police say the body was found on Sunday afternoon near Mill Field Farm in Osgodby, near Selby.

    Officers investigating the unexplained death are appealing for information to help determine his identity.

    They say the body has two distinctive tattoos.

    One is a Yorkshire rose with the name Andrew in a banner at the top and Kelly at the bottom.

    The other has two red hearts and two flowers with the names Sarah, Beccy and Sammy.

    Anyone who thinks they might have seen this man, or who thinks they know his identity, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police.

    A skatepark in Sheffield is doing more than just getting kids out of the house this summer.

    Staff there are helping kids get their GCSEs by encouraging them to stay in education.

    The children who are normally referred to Onboard Skatepark, on Little London Road in Heeley, are on the cusp of dropping out of school.

    The man in the e-fit image allegedly grabbed her and tried to steal her mobile phone before running away.

    East Yorkshire is the fifth worst place in the country for gaining access to a GP out of normal working hours, according to research gathered by the BBC.

    The BBC analysed NHS data and found that nationally more than five million patients in England are unable to book an appointment with a GP out of normal working hours.

    East Riding Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) says GP practices which currently offer extended hours do so under an "enhanced service" offer.

    It is the decision of each practice whether they offer this service or not.

    The CCG has recently completed a procurement process for an extended access service which will be available for all patients across East Yorkshire.

    Ben Mosley, who is the club's official artist, contacted them saying he wanted to give one part of the concourse at Oakwell an injection of colour, which the club agreed to.

    Today is his last day before letting the paint dry ahead of the club's encounter with Oxford United at the weekend.
