    Most of the train services withdrawn by Northern earlier this year are being reinstated from this morning.

    The company was forced to reduce the number of trains it ran after a new timetable caused repeated delays and cancellations.

    It scrapped 168 services per day last month to try to relieve the chaos caused by the timetable's introduction in May.

    The company is reinstating 75% of its services today, the remaining 25% of its cancelled trains do not restart until September.

    A woman has been left with life-changing injuries after being attacked in East Yorkshire, police say.

    Officers say two people have been arrested after the assault in Driffield over the weekend.

    The 40-year-old woman was attacked by another female in the early hours of Saturday morning on Westgate (pictured).

    She was then attacked by a man who crossed the road towards her.

    Officers say she was taken to hospital for treatment to serious life-changing facial injuries.

    A 20-year-old man remains in police custody and an 18-year-old woman has been released pending further inquiries.

  4. Woman sexually assaulted in Yorkpublished at 06:30

    A 28-year-old woman has been sexually assaulted in York.

    It happened at about 01:00 on Sunday morning as the victim was walking home after a night out.

    The woman believes she was followed from Malton Way onto Rawcliffe Lane, before being attacked on Rawcliffe Drive (pictured) in the Clifton area of the city.

    Police say the suspect was wearing a grey hooded top with the hood up.

    Officers want anyone who witnessed the incident to contact them.

    In particular, they need to speak to two people who came to the assistance of the victim - a woman and a man who was walking his dog.
