    Police are trying to find missing man Leonard Cooksey, who was last seen in Wentworth, South Yorkshire, yesterday.

    The 61-year-old, from Kimberworth, was last seen at about 18:20 on Tuesday and is described as white, 5ft 6ins tall and of slim build.

    Police say he has short grey hair, is clean shaven and wears glasses.

    He is likely to be wearing a green Harrington jacket, dark blue jeans and blue canvas shoes.

    Anyone with information about his whereabouts is being asked to contact police.

    Protests are being held today outside railway stations, including Leeds, amid mounting anger over an expected 3.5% increase in regulated train fares.

    The rise, determined by the RPI inflation measure, could add more than £100 to annual season tickets.

    Transport Secretary Chris Grayling has called for future rail fare and wage increases to be based on the lower Consumer Price Index - rather than the higher Retail Price Index.

    The RMT union has accused Mr Grayling of trying to impose a "pay cap" on its members.

    The coastguard's been called out at Hornsea to reports of four swimmers drifting out to sea at Mappleton.

    Another man is thought to have gone into the sea to try and rescue them.

    Three of the swimmers made it back to shore but the fourth swimmer and the man who went to their rescue had to be helped by the Hornsea Rescue boat.

    The coastguard is calling on people not to try and rescue anyone themselves, but to call 999 and ask for the coastguard.

    An inquest is being held today into the death of a North Yorkshire cyclist who was killed while riding in Australia.

    Mike Hall, 35, from Harrogate, was competing in the Indian Pacific Wheel Race when he was involved in a collision with a car last March.

    Mr Hall had been in second place at the time.

    A total of 31 people, most from West Yorkshire, have been charged with child sex offences.

    The 30 men and one woman, external have been charged with offences including rape and trafficking with intent to engage in sexual exploitation, police say.

    The offences are alleged to have been committed between 2005 and 2012 in the Huddersfield area.

    Gardens looked after by inmates at a prison in Hull have won a national award from the Royal Horticultural Society.

    The Hull Prison gardens are tended to by 20 inmates.

    They have now won the Windlesham Trophy, which looks to develop prisoners' sense of self-worth.

    Hull beat off competition from 17 other prisons from across the country.

    New powers have been used to crush a car, which was involved in fly-tipping in Barnsley, for the first time.

    The Saab 93 was caught on CCTV being used to illegally dump rubbish.

    It's one of four cars seized by Barnsley council, but the first one to be crushed after the owner didn't have the documents needed to claim it back.

    The new Chief Constable of North Yorkshire Police is expected to be confirmed today.

    Lisa Winward is the county's Police and Crime Commissioner's preferred candidate following an hour-long Question Time-style grilling.

    Julia Mulligan said she believes Ms Winward, who has graduated from a FBI leadership course, understands what is needed to tackle the most serious crime.

    The County's Police and Crime Panel will discuss the recommendation today.

    Ms Winward is the acting Chief Constable following Dave Jones' retirement earlier this year.

    More 20mph zones are to be rolled out on the streets of Leeds.

    The lower limits will be brought in around residential areas in an effort to reduce road casualties.

    The drop in limits around the city has seen "significant improvements" in safety with up to a 50% drop in road injuries, according to Leeds City Council.

    The authority says it also hope the move will make walking and cycling more attractive to people.

    Dominic Gibbs, owner of the Diamond Live Lounge on Wood Street, says people are spending their money in places like Sheffield or Meadowhall.

    He blames drug users taking Spice.

    Mr Gibbs has launched a campaign calling on the police and the council to "clean up the town".

    South Yorkshire Police say it's made 19 arrests in the past six weeks relating to Spice use.

    Police are trying to find two men - one of whom was wearing a "distinctive tracksuit" - who threatened a man in Leeds and may have been carrying a gun.

    It happened in Meanwood at about 15:30 on 19 July after a 23-year-old man was threatened by two suspects and ran off into a launderette.

    They followed him inside and then he was threatened again.

    Police say it's believed one of them was carrying a handgun.

    Det Sgt Dan Burton said: "One of them was dressed in a red balaclava and very distinctive tracksuit, so would have stood out."

    The rise compares with a 2% increase in average earnings for the wider public.

    Across Britain, the pay of top company executives increased by 11% over the past year.

    Demolition plans for Sheffield's old coroner's court have been withdrawn.

    The current owners had initially wanted to raze the building and re-develop the site on Nursery Street.

    However, the council warned it had concerns about the site being cleared and now the developer has withdrawn its planning application.
