  2. Police search for bikers after door set on firepublished at 18:00

    Four bikers are being hunted by police in Calderdale after the door of a house was set on fire in the early hours of this morning.

    Four suspects on motorbikes arrived at the property on Rochdale Road in Walsden at about 01:00 and set the door alight.

    Only the door was damaged and no-one was inside so there were no injuries, police say.

    Officers say it was a targeted attack and are treating it as arson.

    More than 15,000 people have had their say on plans to transform transport and travel in Leeds.

    Leeds City Council has run two phases of a consultation into proposed road, rail and park and ride changes.

    The authority has £173.5m to spend on improving the city's transport network, with the leader of the council saying the investment would make it "quicker and easier to move around the city".

    The city council says work is now under way examining the views and data it's collected and will eventually publish a "Connecting Leeds" report.

    People living in Hornsea say they're still waiting for answers after they were left without water for three days.

    Some homes suffered low water pressure and several were left with no water at all last weekend because of damage to underground pipes.

    Supplies have now been restored, but it's thought dry ground conditions have caused several pipes to crack.

    Police are appealing for information after a young Doncaster woman who was out walking her dog was grabbed by a man and dragged into bushes before her pet attacked her assailant.

    The 21-year-old victim was walking her dog along a ginnel on St Peter’s Road in Balby at about 22:30 on 29 July.

    She was grabbed by a man she didn't know who then dragged her off into some bushes, but her dog bit him and chased him off.

    The funeral of Barry Chuckle, one half of the comedy duo the Chuckle Brothers has taken place today in Rotherham.

    Many fans of the Chuckle Brothers gathered outside the home of Rotherham United, were the pair were honorary life presidents.

    A young 10-year-old "mega fan" travelled all the way from Birmingham to pay his respects.

    Sheffield and Rotherham Wildlife Trust has publicly thanked South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service for putting out a fire at one of its reserves this week.

    The fire took hold at Moss Valley Woodlands reserve on Wednesday, caused by an abandoned barbecue.

    In a tweet, the trust said: "Luckily it was dealt with before major damage was caused.

    "But please remember not to light fires/BBQs on our reserves and if you see a fire call 999 immediately!"

    Police say he was "carrying what was said to be a small bladed weapon" and stole money from the till at the shop in Carlisle Street before running away.

    He's described as about 5ft 7ins tall, wearing a black coat with a hood with a fur trim, blue jeans and distinctive pink gloves with pom-poms on them.

    Anyone with information about the man's identity is being asked to get in touch with Humberside Police.

    A man's been left with a legal bill of nearly £10,000 after trying to claim compensation for falling because of missing cobbles on a footpath in Scarborough in 2014.

    North Yorkshire County Council originally agreed to the claim and made an interim payment of £1,000 to the man who said he'd fallen on Merchant's Row in the town (pictured).

    But photographic evidence showed a defect wasn't present at the time the man claimed to have tripped over it.

    He agreed to pay the council's full legal costs, a bill of £9,696, less than an hour before the case was due to go to court earlier this month, the council has revealed.

    Pedestrians were awarded at least £2.1m in compensation after tripping on pavements in the past year, research has revealed.

    Official figures show 10,572 people made claims against local councils, but of those only 859, that's just 8%, were successful.

    A kitten has had to be put to sleep after it was dumped in a box with a badly injured tail outside an RSPCA centre in West Yorkshire.

    The six-month-old female grey tabby was left in a box outside the charity's district branch on Wade Street in Halifax in the early hours of Saturday.

    Two vets examined her injury and decided her suffering was so severe that she needed to be put to sleep.

    Whoever left the kitten also left a note which said they couldn't afford the £300 vet's bill to remove her tail.

    A fire at a factory on Wiltshire Road in Hull has now been extinguished.

    Humberside Fire and Rescue Service says there was "a small contained fire behind a door" and adds that "crews have now left the scene".

    No-one was hurt in the fire but police say they're investigating how it started.

    The boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was arrested after an investigation by Counter Terrorism Policing North East.

    At the Youth Court wing of Leeds Magistrates' Court, he was denied bail by district judge David Kitson.

    Network Rail engineers have detected ground movement close to the main railway line in and out of Hull.

    It's after a 100m crack was found on the embankment between the railway track and the Humber.

    North Yorkshire's new Chief Constable says she wants to get rid of the "Heartbeat" image people associate with the county's force.

    She says a recent inspection found North Yorkshire police's efficiency needs to be improved and she's looking at new ways of working with less "old-fashioned bureaucracy".
