    A West Yorkshire Labour MP is taking to the rails this morning to talk to passengers after a summer of disrupted train journeys.

    Colne Valley's Thelma Walker will travel across the Pennines to Stalybridge, as part of a campaign to improve train journeys for passengers.

    An inquiry into widespread rail disruption following timetable changes has been launched.

    It will identify what led to the failed introduction of new schedules and make recommendations "before any future major network changes," the Office of Rail and Road said, external.

    Disruption to passengers, especially on Northern will be examined.

    The multi-million selling pop princess is performing at the Open Air Theatre.

    The American singer, dancer, and actress, famous for her 1998 hit Baby One More Time, begins a UK tour of her Las Vegas show in the Yorkshire seaside town.

    Six thousand people are expected to pack the stadium by the sea, in what's thought to be the largest open air theatre in Europe.

    Six Yorkshire prisons are to be given a share of £10m in funding to improve security and conditions.

    • Humber, East Riding of Yorkshire - Category C
    • Leeds - Category B
    • Lindholme, near Doncaster - Category C/D
    • Moorland, Hatfield Woodhouse, South Yorkshire - Category C
    • Wealstun, near Wetherby, West Yorkshire - Category C

    Prisons Minister Rory Stewart says he plans to reduce drug-taking significantly in the jails within the next 12 months.

    Announcing the new package of measures, the Ministry of Justice, external said they were designed to lift standards at 10 prisons which have "acute problems" with high drug use, violence and building issues.

    He starred in ChuckleVision with his brother Paul between 1987 and 2009.

    Police say Leah Smith was last seen by her family at 14:30 yesterday in Mast Drive, Hull.

    Officers say the teenager is 5ft 3in tall, slim with dark, shoulder length hair and was wearing a black tracksuit top and navy blue jogging bottoms.

    They're appealing for anyone who knows where she is to get in touch.

  12. MP backs calls for Hull film to get younger age ratingpublished at 18:00

    A Hull MP is backing calls for a film made about the City of Culture year to be rated as a 12A so younger people will get a chance to see it too.

    Sean McAllister's A Northern Soul looks at the City of Culture from the perspective of working families.

    It's been classified only suitable for audiences over the age of 15 because of the number of swear words in it.

    The British Board of Film Classification says the film has about 20 uses of strong language and exceeds anything permitted at 12A.

    A playwright from Hull's been nominated for a prestigious drama award which sees his name listed alongside Poldark actor Aidan Turner and Bryan Cranston of Breaking Bad fame.

    Joe Robertson and his co-writer Joe Murphy have been nominated in the Stage Debut Awards for their play The Jungle.

    The work was inspired by a visit to the infamous migrant camp in Calais (pictured).

    The awards are put on by the Stage, the theatre newspaper and website, to celebrate breakthrough talent from actors, directors, designers, writers, composers and lyricists - all of whom must have made their professional stage debuts in the past year.

    We'll find out the winner next month.

    A teenage boy from Bradford has been charged with terrorism offences.

    The 15-year-old has been been charged with possessing a document or record likely to be useful to a person preparing or committing an act of terrorism.

    He was arrested last Friday by Counter Terrorism Police and is also charged with one offence of making or possessing explosive under suspicious circumstances.

    He has been remanded in custody and is due to appear before Leeds Magistrates' Court on Friday.

    A disabled comedian who found herself on a train leaving York when she'd requested help getting off says transport companies need to be held accountable for such treatment.

    Tanyalee Davis was due in the city for a gig, but no staff were there to help her when the train pulled into the station.

    She was eventually given help at Darlington and managed to get onto a train back to York, where she just about made her show.

    She says it's a national problem and happens more than people think.

    "It's a daily occurrence. I'm literally getting hundreds of messages from people going, 'Have you heard about this? This is what's happening'," she says.

    London North Eastern Railway apologised last month for the incident.

    A teenager has died after she was taken ill in a car in Rotherham this afternoon.

    The 19-year-old was a passenger in a car that was travelling on Fitzwilliam Road when police were called at about 12:10.

    She was taken out of the car by paramedics, but died at the scene.

    Officers say the woman’s death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.

    Land which has been used as allotments for more than 80 years is to be turned into educational space as part of plans to build a new primary school in Huddersfield, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

    Kirklees Council is expected to agree the contentious change of use for land, at Cemetery Road in Birkby, at a meeting next week.

    The move will pave the way for the land to be turned into playing fields as part of a proposed 420-place school development to serve the area.

    Fourteen allotment holders affected by the changes have been offered new plots on land that has been cleared and improved.

    But campaigners say the council is driving through its plans and choosing not to engage with them or their high-profile supporters such as Huddersfield MP Barry Sheerman.
