    Leeds-based supermarket chain Asda has reported a 0.4% rise in like-for-like sales in the second quarter of this year.

    Asda, which is owned by Walmart, said better food sales volumes and "strengthening performance in non-food categories" also gave it a boost.

    A "robust" partnership has been set up to help tackle rough sleeping, drug abuse and anti-social behaviour in Doncaster town centre, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, external.

    Doncaster Council, South Yorkshire Police, St Leger Homes and members of the Doncaster Business Forum all came together to see what could be done to help those who take "Spice".

    The announcement has come after growing pressure after a grassroots campaign by business owner Dominic Gibbs, calling on the authorities to take real action.

    Mr Gibbs' Clean Up Doncaster Town Centre Facebook page is supported by nearly 7,500 people and he's urging people not to turn their back on town centre businesses.

    An 11-point action plan was drawn up which includes "better co-ordinated" police patrols, police and community neighbourhood teams to deal with drug dealing, work to support people into accommodation and support for addiction and mental health issues.

    A student from York with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is going to university after being allowed to sit her A-level exams at home.

    Katie Livings, from Clifton, got an A* in Extended Project Qualification writing about the illness she's suffered for the last five years.

    She also got A grades in History and French and a B in English.

    The 18-year-old will now be able to take a place at the University of Kent to study Law and French Law.

    Katie's condition has improved over the summer and she intends to start at university this year.

    An urgent search is under way for a man from Leeds who was in a "distressed state" when he was last seen.

    Morris Wilson was reported missing at 18:00 yesterday and was last seen in the Chapeltown area.

    Police say they are urgently trying to find the 43-year-old to check he's okay because when he was last seen he was in a distressed state.

    Officers say he could be in the Wakefield area.

    The Bosville Arms (pictured) has been closed for the past three years and the owner has applied for permission to convert it into housing.

    Councillors have postponed making a decision on the application to give villagers time to develop plans to convert the business to a community use.

    Dan Jarvis says disagreements between the leaders of the councils in South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire are slowing down the process, but they're working on it.

    He says that agreement needs to be in place before they can start drawing down money to help improve the region.

    "I have a very good working relationship with all of the leaders," he said.

    "We are making progress, but I need to get government to support that process so we can reach an agreement and actually start drawing down the money and the powers that we need to make the changes that people want to see."

    Police say extensive damage has been caused during a burglary at a football club in York.

    It happened sometime between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning at the Hamilton Panthers Pavilion on Knavesmire Road.

    The club's CCTV system was stolen during the raid.

    A civil engineering expert says bridges like the Humber Bridge are incredibly safe.

    It follows the collapse of a motorway bridge in the Italian City of Genoa on Tuesday which killed at least 39 people.

    Two of the polar bears at Yorkshire Wildlife Park are being tested for allergies, after they began suffering abscesses on their feet.

    A team of three vets, a nurse, three dermatologists and five more park staff were on hand when Victor, who weights 620 kg, was given his test.

    The major operation was put in place to test both Victor and his smaller friend Nobby.

    Staff suspected the abscesses were was caused by an allergic reaction to pollen after the animals were moved from concrete bear pit enclosures elsewhere to the more natural setting at the attraction near Doncaster.

    Dermatologists from Liverpool University were brought in to carry out tests on Victor's skin to verify the theory.

    The results will be known in the coming days.

    Researchers say they've been surprised by how effective it is in testing, because it causes tumour cells to shut down.

    The substance, called KHS 101, has been tested on mice and could form the basis for a new treatment for glioblastoma.

    Profits in 2017 fell by 10%, with the chief executive blaming price wars for contributing to the drop.

    Disruption on the railway near Wakefield will continue until about 18:00 tonight, according to National Rail.

    Last night, a tractor crashed onto the railway line, it hit and damaged overhead lines.

    The damage has caused the following disruption to services, according to National Rail, external:

    • No Northern services between Leeds and Doncaster
    • A LNER bus replacement service between Wakefield Westgate and Doncaster (from about 08:00)
    • A limited Northern service between Sheffield and Leeds, with a bus replacement service between Leeds and Moorthorpe
    • LNER trains between Leeds and Doncaster diverted to start and terminate at York
    • CrossCountry services between Leeds and Sheffield avoiding Wakefield Westgate

    The mayor of the Sheffield City Region has celebrated his 100th day in office this week.

    Dan Jarvis, who is also the Labour MP for Barnsley Central, was elected back in May.

    One of the things he said was a priority for him was to secure a devolution deal for the region.

    However, he has still been unable to get South Yorkshire's council leaders to agree.

    Extra money for improvements to transport and to boost the local economy won't be available until a deal can be struck.
